My voice is worth something, just not here
Welcome to the 79th weekly installment of my series on Steem income and growth!
Income on the Steem blockchain is generated by "investment" (the more currency you have, the more you earn) and by "work" (earning currency by contributing content that adds value). All my crypto holdings are in the STEEM currency. Now I'm working to earn more, by uploading unique valuable content to the blockchain.

My payouts are down because I'm not getting large upvotes on my 3Speak videos, and because HF21 is taking close to half my payouts.
If my team's funds were in a single account, it would be the 4185th richest. We'd been moving up at least 50 positions per week, but lately we're just holding ground against the rest of the pack.
Last week marked 1.5 years of keeping these data. I can summarize my experience on the blockchain as having turned a $5000 investment into $400 (losing 92%) AND having worked full-time 2 years for free. Or, I could say I made $400 for 2 years of full-time work, and turned my $5000 investment into $0.
Either way you think about it, my experience hasn't been what most people would call profitable or even positive. My blog has been seen by essentially nobody, in a dark corner of a forgotten website that hasn't been relevant since 2016. As an activist, I've partially silenced myself by putting so much of my voice and time into Steem/Steemit, and don't have a penny to show for it.
Personally, I'm happy for certain things I've learned and done on the Steem blockchain. But my data show without a doubt that I have NOT been paid for my voice here. In reality, I've paid quite a bit (of time and money) to post here. Steemit should consider changing the claim on their front page. We shouldn't mislead potential new members, because once they realize they were lied to, they'll have a bitter taste in their mouth.

It's good that you kept this data. Now you can say "I put in 2 years and 5 grand and came out with 400 bucks", and back it up. This should be a warning to anyone thinking about trying to grind their way to profits with content on the Steem blockchain. Probably can't be done.
Hell, if it could be done, people would be doing it. Essentially nobody is. Content-creation on Steem is dead, and has no future.
I can confirm that an account starting from scratch will not get anywhere via commenting and curation alone. I have put in decent comments, at least twice a day, on various posts for the past 15 months. My total value is up from $5 to $8 in that time. If anyone is thinking of commenting and curating (without investing beforehand), don't bother.
79 weeks is really long time to do anything, especially online. Congratulations for sticking with the data collection and analysis!
PS: 79 is gold's atomic number.
This place was such a dream come true 2 years ago. It had so much potential and seemed to be everything we had been needing for so long. This has been pretty heartbreaking to live through and be part of.
They really should change their front page, and entire FAQ etc. Nothing is accurate anymore. Totally misleading.
To be fair, they never promised anyone would make money. They're vague about the claims. They've covered their butts.
