Steem.Supply New Feature: Upsteemers versus Followers Chart in the Social Insights Area

in #steemit7 years ago

I just rolled out a new feature for the "Social Insights" tab of steem.supply which lets you visualize the number of upsteemers (people who upsteemed your posts during the last 7 days) versus the total number of your followers.

Here's how this looks for my account:

And here's how this looks for @jerrybanfield account:

I think this is a very interesting metric. You may have a fairly large number of followers, but not all of them are upsteeming your stories. Or you may have a large number of followers, but many of them are not on Steemit anymore. Either way, I find this metric useful.

Note 1: if the account you're looking up has a fairly large number of followers, the first request will take longer than usual, because how the data from the blockchain is retrieved in this specific case. The subsequent requests are cached for 24 hours, though, so they should be way faster.

Note 2: there is a known bug in Google Charts which offsets the labels for piecharts, so if you see the labels on the slices a bit off, try to hover with your mouse over that slice to see the tooltip, like in the second screenshot above (that's the best workaround I can come up with).

As always, I'm open to suggestions, criticism and feedback.

Another great feature for steem.supply ... Cool!

@dragosroua - thanks for this tool! I have an unrelated question which I'm hoping you can answer. Where/how can I see all of the people who upvoted my posts AND the value of each of their upvotes? On steemdb.com when you look up a post and press on the "Votes" tab it only shows a few votes even though the post got a whole bunch, not sure why that is.

Hi @yabapmatt,
You can find that at https://steemd.com. It gives all the users voted and the value of their vote. BUT! it needs lots of going around and back and fourth and it can be a hassle. The least hassle would be if you catch a new vote and check it immediately.

However, I agree with @dragosroua that this will be a great addition to steem. supply. I also asked for another addition pertaining to the same subject in my comment somewhere below :)

Thanks

Oh awesome, I just found it on steemd - you're right it's hidden but it's there! Thank you!

Glad it helped :D

I don't know yet, but this sounds like a cool addition to steem.supply.

Very interesting metric!

I am thinking about the value of having another quite similar one to this one next to it: number of upvoting followers/the total number of your followers.

Both give different insights. The first one would say more about exposure combined with appreciation from people that probably don't know you (assumption + only when upvotes by followers are not taken into account) and the second one would say more about how engaged and consistently loyal your follower base is.

What do you think @dragosroua?

I think this chart does exactly what you described.

Ahh so only the upsteemers that are followers are counted in the dark green part of the pie? So upvoters that are not followers are not included?

I'm not matching upsteemers with followers now, I just assume that upsteemers are followers. Many interesting statistics can arise once I'll do this integration, you are right about that, but I'd first wait for feedback from the community.

Fair enough! Thanks for working on these kind of things :-)

it will be really helpful for all of us, people like you making steemit more beautiful each and everyday, a big thanks to all of you...

Nice work as always, I appreciate all the effort and use steem supply all the time. Keep up the good work it earned you my witness vote :)

Thank you :)

that is a great metric... i don't know why but i still can't get the two "insights" tabs to work. i've had trouble with that for a week or two now.

which browser / os? Also can you make a screenshot?

i tried it with chrome and explorer...sorry i don't know how to make a screenshot, i'm on a desktop... fyi

Do you get any error message at all, or the tabs just don't open?

just nothing happens or changes

This morning i find that the tabs are working.

Actually something happened. Its not loading :/

try again now, it's working

It loaded in another browser, it might had to do with cache

I like it.

It's interesting that I keep getting followers but few of them interact with what I post. Any ideas why? Nice job with the social tab.

Probably they are from the "follow for follow" tribe, so to speak. Patience and try interacting with higher profile authors.

I'm not in a hurry :) the thing is I follow very few people, but maybe some people just hit that follow button randomly. Was is strange is they don't do that on other platforms.

That is a really nice feature. I will go right away and take a look. Thanks for this service. @OriginalWorks
