The power of the upvote!
Hello fellow Steemians! I’m writing this post as to complement an ongoing project 😁
What is an upvote?
The upvote is the supposedly the way that streemit users express their delight for another user's content. Although due to curation rewards, up-voting is seen by many as a way to simply generate more income. When you upvote content, you are effectively increasing the visibility of the post and also its value.
The total value of a post is split between the author and the curator and so, many Steemians simply upvote in the hope that the post in question becomes viral and consequently they will get a slice of the pie.
This may seem like an attractive way to make a little extra on Steemit but it is flawed in that people don’t realize there needs to be a time delay between when the post was created and when curation seekers should vote.
If you upvote up to 15 minutes after the post was created, you will give 99.94% of your vote to the author and 0.06% goes to you.
If you upvote 15 minutes after the post was created, you will give 50% of your vote to the author and 50% goes to you.
If you upvote 30 minutes after the post was created, 100% goes to you.
Not to mention it makes the platform super unbalanced by “making the rich richer” as many Steemit users try to spam comments and upvote/resteem everything that a rep 70+ user posts, they effectively make hardly any Steem dollars form curation as many vote within the first few seconds without ever actually reading the content. This makes these posts super popular in a short time and generate massive amounts of income, most of the time for no reason and effectively shooting yourself in the foot claiming something like 0.001 SBD
What content should I upvote?
Well to be honest it is completely up to you, feel free to spam upvotes if you feel the necessity to. I have a tendency of splitting my up-voting between high quality content, newcomers and things that make me laugh/feel good. This is quite detrimental to me generating SBD off upvotes, but hey IMO it’s the way it should be.
The info that most of you are probably wanting to know is how can I generate the most income from my upvotes? 🙄
Well… As I have just mentioned upvoting content that you think will become popular is one way, but every time you up-vote your vote is worth a little less which can effectively curb spam. Though your vote weight will recharge after a 24h period.
I advise people to upvote content the genuinely find interesting
How many times should I upvote in a day?
It is advised that you neither undervote or overvote daily, the general consensus as to how many times a person should vote each day to stay relevant is between 20 - 30 upvotes!
