Results From Using 'Promote'

in #steemit8 years ago

Yesterday I decided to test out the promote button on Steemit and use it for one of my posts which quickly went from less than .10 to over $50 and settled later on at a little less than that.

Today I tested it again on a different post, but I spent less $ on promotion. Yesterday I used whatever $ I had left in my account which was a little over $2 and I got a nice return from that. Today I used only $1 and the post hasn't even gone above $1 yet. And if it doesn't then it wasn't a good investment.

I can see other people spending anywhere from $10 to $15 on promotion for their posts and I wonder what the difference is between the amounts?

What do you get for $10 that you don't for $1? a longer period of promotion?

Have you, yes you reading this, tried promoting your own posts and seen a good or negative response? please share!

Is it still better to invest $ into steem power rather than using it on promotion or changing it into btc etc?

It's nice to see the new changes! Looking forward to more.

If the post will attractive than you can get better results,if not than you will suffer loss.

My results have been terrible, $8 for a post that earned .42 cents and $5 for a post that earned .30 cents. Thanks but no thanks I will not be using it. I think it is just a fad like steemloto everyone does it at first but after a month hardly anyone will be doing it maybe? Maybe it is also because there are too many promoted posts right now since everyone is trying it out? I will try it again in a week or two to see if I get a different result once there aren't as many promotions on there.

You posted into the most popular category on Steemit. Your post was not exceptional. It's not the tool's fault, your strategy was lacking in research. The top post in the steemit category was boosted at over $100

The more you spend, the higher it rises in the "promoted" list, which is a unique category. Also, there are "promoted" lists in each category. For $15 and $16 I was able to put two of my posts at the top of the promoted posts in the story and fiction categories for several hours today. One rose about $100 and the other went from a few cents to over $300 after promoting it. Since upvotes weighty enough to add cash, also add time to the payout schedule, I imagine the promote button does also.

thanks for the info! congrats on your results! ^_^

Well, not sure if it would work that way every time, but for the next few days, I predict it will be beneficial.

Does timing make a difference? If I did a promote at 5:00 am would it be different than at 10:00am.

How long does the promote last?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I was wondering how effective the promote button will be. At the beginning I had doubts...

Only if you are popular, then you will collect more.
Many posters can't even make 0.10 cents because theirs posts get buried in all the posts. Not to be seen. just my 2 cents opinion.

Tried it yesterday immediately after it went live. Boosted a post for $7 and got half a buck. A waste of money.

It is like @markrmorrisjr is saying. be careful in which category you post (less competition and lower bosts).

Of course, is a waste of SBD.

I have not tried it, and I try not to jump to judgement, but I personally will not vote on or read anything on the list.

They have every right to add the feature, and you have every right to use it. I personally will not support pay for votes system. Think it through. Eventually, you pay 99 cents for $1 dollar votes. :) Good Luck!

thanks man!
whatever helps people enjoy the site/get more out of it and therefore help it to grow is great for the rest of us^_^

Well, whatsup, the people who voted on my promoted posts today, made off with a tidy sum. That's a short sited position you're taking and it's likely why, among other things, you are still hanging out waiting to get to 10 steem, after a week of posting. Study the platform and use the tools, you could be getting paid. I made almost $500 today.

Excellent, I am happy for you. I don't tend to get all upset when someone disagrees with me. I am happy for your success! Good job.

Just curious - Are you going to check every post you vote for to see if they boosted it? Because there are a lot of people using the promote feature, even for just a few cents. I'm not sure how ignoring all of those posts would be beneficial, especially when you consider that most of the highest-earning posts are using the promote button.

People want their posts to be seen and your solution is to purposely not read them? That doesn't seem helpful. And it doesn't sound like a great way to curate good content and earn rewards.

No, I wouldn't check all of them. Really my vote doesn't matter enough.
I think it is bad for the overall system of building a social media site, but asking people to pay to have their votes seen. I don't think it will promote good content, I don't think it will promote better features, and if we want an advertising board, that is who will eventually have the money.

I didn't make anything personal to you or about you. So, if you like the feature and feel it is beneficial, please use it.

Your advice is worth about as much as your steem power.

Yes, I tried to promote my latest blogpost today. I put $22.87 worth of SBD into it, and 13 hours later almost, I'm at $9 -- Big net loss.

I did get 50 votes, but it's all minnows. :) I did get 2 whales, but their voting power was so spread out it didn't help much. Especially since they voted really early.

So it can be quite a gamble. I wouldn't recommend you be too aggressive.

This is pretty much a summary of STEEMIT in general. It may not be zero-sum, but not everyone can win; the money has to come from a loser. Investing time and energy into posting and upvoting may not be profitable (30% or so chance that it is).

Actually, the money increases a certain amount each day, this is simply the distribution scheme. No one has to lose, and everyone who's willing to produce quality, desirable content can get paid.

So, money comes out of thin air? I don't think so. The majority of "compensational" value is locked up in STEEM Power for years at a time, under the assumption that there will be an increase in steemit's userbase.
Someone has to lose, period. Your stake in STEEM increases at a certain rate, not your "money". The distribution scheme does not matter, because STEEM acts as a central banking authority, much like the federal reserve.

Is everyone, who's willing to produce, in the US, rich?

They double the supply of steem dollars annually, read the white paper. Then as a commodity, it is traded for bitcoin, then dollars. The value, as is the case in most financial instruments, is perceived. The same is true of the dollar. We all agree to use it, thus it derives its power.

As long as steem continues to rise, and more users adopt it, the value will increase.

You posted your promoted post in "money" a category that currently has a top boosted post at $110. The more you boost, the higher you rank on the list. Now, the top post hasn't made jack yet either, but if you post into a category with less expensive competition, you might have a better shot.

didn't know that's how it worked! thanks for the info! ^_^

I didn't either until I searched a few posts this afternoon. I found the promote function when I saw it on my own post! LOL if you follow my profile, I'm doing something called #dolphinschool and trying to share all of the valuable tips I find. Love to have you contribute.

i'll be following you~~
