Steemit Drama

Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of drama and angst on Steemit. Maybe you have noticed a change of tone in posts and comments like I have.

The poor performance of STEEM related to other cryptocurrency, which are experiencing explosive price action has left many concerned about the future.

The current "whale experiment" has thrown the community into flux further. Payouts have drastically changed as whales cease to vote or have their votes cancelled out by other whales. This have left many users encouraged and many angry as well.

The Steemit drama, seems to have culminated this week with the announcement that Dan Larimer the Co-Founder of BitShares & Steemit is resigning from steemit, inc. This announcement has left many confused and worrying about the future.

Today I submitted my Resignation to Steemit, inc

"I will not be posting or voting any more.

I wish you all the best."

@ned posted a statement about the resignation on March 15 2017

My Announcement March 15 2017

"Yesterday Dan Larimer resigned as CTO of Steemit. Steemit will go on, but I’ll be honest... today has been a stressful day. Dan has an unusual history, so while we can't say we expected this, it was a possibility we had planned for.

The truth is, Jeffrey Paul (@sneak) has been the driving force behind development for the past 3 months. While this whole affair is emotionally painful, development is actually ahead of schedule thanks to Jeffrey and of course our amazing team of developers. He’s the right person to head development in the interim as we transition into the future.

I won’t lie; there are big changes coming. After processing these events, I believe this is the best thing for Steemit Inc, and most importantly for the community growing here on Steemit.com."

@neds post

This prompted me to leave the following comment

"I have only been on Steemit for one month, but I am really enjoying being part of the community. I appreciate this update but in the short time I have been involved in steemit there seems to be alot of uncertainty at the moment. Dan's announcement, the poor performance of STEEM and the current whale "experiment" have people feeling uneasy. I think everyone would appreciate a direct clear and concise post explaining in detail the vision for the future. I as well as many others want to see this amazing platform succeed and I believe communication is the best way to do that. Thank you, all the best!"

I received the following response from @sneak

"First, welcome. :)

As for the future, we put a lot of time and effort into this document in December which should do a fairly decent job of communicating our vision for the platform and product.

We, as always, Steem On.

I was grateful for the response and would now like to talk about Steemit, inc's vision for the future.

Steemit Future

Many of you may have already read through Steemit's 2017 Roadmap PDF but in case you haven't I wanted to share a short summary of it here.

2017 Roadmap

" This document is composed of three sections, one each for Steemit, Inc: the organization, steemit.com: the social media application, and the decentralized Steem Blockchain and Platform."

Goals

"Our long-term goal remains the same: to provide the best platform for censorship-resistant publishing and store of value to the widest user base possible, in an effort to increase human freedom and accelerate the spread of access to basic rights for all people on Earth. "

 Summary

"This document exists for you: the user: the entrepreneur, the developer, the writer, the reader. We understand the challenges you face, and want to provide a predictably moving target for our ecosystem so that we can grow together. It includes our organizational plan for Steemit, the company, and how we work. It partially specifies the social features and functionality we will implement presently for steemit.com, the social application. Finally, it dives into the underlying blockchain technology we will design and implement to support the use and scaling of the network far into the future. "

The following is the Roadmap overview...

1: steemit.com

• Migrating all services to auto-scaling, self-healing infrastructure.

• Useful blockchain data microservices for both internal and external developers to

accelerate application development.

• developer.steem.io: World-class developer documentation for rapidly building Steem

Blockchain apps.

• Officially supported client libraries for JavaScript and Python.

• Feature: Greatly reduced blockchain account creation costs, minus the spam.

• Feature: Arbitrary splitting of post rewards, for revenue splitting.

• Scalability: The future is parallel.

3: Steemit, Inc.

• Physical Decentralization: a global team headquartered on the Internet.

• Internet-speed internal team communications.

• Automatic tests and builds for all code, with easy one-command deployments to reduce

latency to production for completed features, allowing developers to focus on

development.

• We’re hiring the best talent globally.

• We plan to decentralize the @steemit account stake.

• All of our software will remain free (as in freedom) software.

This overview highlights some key points but I would encourage everyone to read through the document in it's entirety if you haven't already. There are some very exciting plans for new features and a bright picture of the future. After reading the document I am left feeling encouraged and eager for the future!

As Steemit goes through it's growing pains, remember to relax, these are only natural.

Stay committed to the goals of the community and focus on enjoying the platform.

The most important part of Steemit in my opinion is the great community of users, so let us take all of these changes in stride and move forward together!

Keep Steeming! The future is bright!

The fabric is coming...

I'm glad you liked reading it. I spent a buttload of time on that doc around Christmas and some days I feel like nobody read it. :)

We've shipped 3-4 of those items already. Communities are in progress now, with work starting on mobile.

It was very well done. Hopefully this post will encourage others to read it! Could you offer any suggestions,if some of the readers would like to get more involved with the development of the platform?

look like we are talking about same topic today @digicrypt

Regardless of intellectual conflicts and difference in opinions, we should consider it a loss for all of us when any one leave steemit, diversity in everything is the real power in social media, i meant it will be very boring if anyone looks different pushed away either directly or indirectly.
I quoted this from my blog today Thanks for sharing your thoughts man, i hope things will get better soon. Steemit on

I think a lot of people have been concerned recently, I think some of these challenges are natural in the growth process and will make Steemit stronger in the end. I want the platform and all of its users to succeed! Thanks for your comments and your blog post! Keep Steeming!

Well articulated post, a bit of positivity during this time is very welcome and I agree with pretty much all your points.
I have to say my view of the platform has changed a little over the last few days but I am very hopeful for the future.

Thank you. I would agree, my view of the platform has changed/evolved as well but I too, share your hope for the future!
