That is what I was asking to Google for about half an hour! My search keywords were useless because every single steemit post has the text "Boost Payments" embedded, so not an easy job for Google to find the answer I was looking for.

It all begun when I saw the potential payout detail of one of my posts:

WTH are the "Boost Payments" then?

There you have the answer:

We are pleased to announce a “Promoted Content” section that will soon be available right next to trending and hot. This section sorts articles based upon which articles have received the most Steem Dollars from users.

Got it? I guess no, so if you keep reading that big post, you might get it but I prefer to provide you with nice screenshots:

Boost Payments are money from Promoted posts

Now I finally know what that little "PROMOTE" button does!

It stands at the very bottom of every unpaid post, you hit that button and pay SD for adding that post (not only our posts!) into the promoted posts section

Wondering where it goes from here? There you have it, this is the promoted posts feed:

Look! My post: Why I exchanged half of my Bitcoin reserve for STEEM POWER got promoted and it was not me! So much thanks for doing it and for inspiring me to write this post! Whoever you are...

What is the deal with "Boost Payments" and Promoted posts?

Before being promoted, my post had about 70 upvotes and less than $1.00 estimated payout, also my reputation was 49. Imagine my face when suddenly all those numbers jumped! from 70 to 89 upvotes, from 49 to 51 reputation and the sweetest: from about $1.00 to $50.00 potential payout!

The deal here is that if you find a post with low visibility, yet with good chances to make good curation rewards, then promote it and if you were right, it will get a good or even a huge payout that you'll profit from.

A little reflexion and strategy

I consider everyone in this community as whales, because minnows belong to another species! So I'm an whale egg and my curation skills are in development yet. I don't plan to promote content myself right now, maybe in the future when I can build some STEEM and SD liquid reserves, for now I'm focused on building strong SP whale reserves.

UPDATE: Google finally knows the right answer!

This guy just needed some help, so now that this posts exists our friend Google managed to index it up to the first position. Hurray!!
