Steemit Things I've Learned In My First 8 Days - #2

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

I'm going to write a series of things I've learned here... as I learn them. I will keep them short and to the point to not waste too much of anyone's time. They are obviously meant for the new people because frankly they (like me) probably jumped in and have to learn on the fly. (Note: this is the 2nd in the series, if you want to see the others go to the bottom of this post for the links)

-If you have any questions about what I discuss, ask them in the comment section below

-If you like what I talked about and think your followers would like to learn from it, "RESTEEM" it.
(note: you don't get paid to resteem something, you just help to spread around a message that you like)

-If you have another topic you would like me to cover next, then also reply that request in the comment section

Here goes:

Resteeming Facts And Purposes

First, what is a resteem? A resteem simply means to resubmit someone else's post to your own followers by placing it in your blog. Since people that follow you will go to your blog to learn more about you , you can add interesting content. (and they will get your posts in their feeds too) This serves 3 purposes:

-----One is to help the author of the post to gain views and eyeballs (because you like their content).

-----Two is to help your followers to receive good content (because you want them to have a good experience and see interesting things).

-----Three is to help you to "define" yourself by what you find interesting. People will figure out who you by your blog, so just keep it real.

Resteeming is very simple and all you have to do is to hit the resteem button in the post (see below)

Note: for frame of reference that is the line where you normally would upvote a post and right next to "reply".

Do I Get Paid To Resteem?

When I first started I thought that I could get paid to resteem, but it took me 7 days to figure this one out. You DO NOT GET PAID when YOU resteem someone's post. The purposes of you resteeming (listed above) are valuable, but they don't directly affect your payout. Indirectly, they help you by increasing your reputation, building your brand, and helping your own followers.

While you don't get paid to resteem other people's posts, there are other ways TO GET PAID from the resteem feature

Free Resteem Account Services To Resteem Your Posts

While I am new and still only have limited information, I have discovered 2 accounts that are here to help the newbies like us (and there maybe many more that I am not aware of). They will resteem your posts for free to help you get more attention and reach a wider viewing base. These 2 particular services want to HELP you if you are posting something that is original and good.

The first one is @resteemable (Resteemit.com)

In order to submit your post (or any post for that matter), you just go to the url of the post (see pic below) and take out the https:// and replace it with "re"

So just delete the highlighted portion and insert the 2 letters - re

If @resteemable thinks it is a good post, they will resteem it to their followers and give you a much better chance to get more votes (and maybe even more money!)

The second one is @gaman (New Steemians Project)

You just follow him and maybe reply to one his posts like this one to let him know that you want to work with him:

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@gaman/new-steemians-project-launch

I don't know all of his criteria, but I do know that he has resteemed quite a few of my posts and helped me get attention.

Summation

Resteeming is a valuable tool to get authors of content more views (thus more votes), but it is also a tool for us newbies to develop content for our blogs, help out our favorites, and build a reputation. Thanks to services like @resteemable and @gaman, resteeming also helps us to get seen from far bigger networks of people.

I like the feature and very glad that steemit has added it as a feature to the platform!

This is just another tip of something I have learned in my first 8 days. I have many more things I've learned and if people seem to find it interesting, then I will continue to prepare more of these tips that I find. It is up to you in the community to let me know if it is useful.

I want to point out that I am by no means and expert and I am just offering my humble advice based on what I have learned. If any more experienced users have more to add, I welcome them to do so and help everyone out!

Thanks for reading and I hope I can help a few people along the way :)

Thanks for sharing great tips!

You're welcome @onemanunit... I hope it helps!

How did you get so many followers so fast?

First, I have engage a lot of people by going to their posts... Second, I try to follow everyone that is interesting. Third I follow everyone who follows me because they must be someone that likes something I like. Essentially, I don't worry about how many followers I have, I try to focus on following others and reaching out to others. A lot of people will follow you back if they like what you have to say. I hope this helps @ndstocktrader ... if you want any more explanations, just ask :)

OMG you post too fast and I can't upvote yet :o hahaha (for other readers, please refer to his lesson #1). I have followed @gaman but not sure what his mechanics are. I'll try @resteemable, thanks for that.

I would also like to add in here. I read a steemit post advising to resteem content that your audience/followers will also want to read. This was by someone who already has a lot of followers, she shared that one of her followers told her that he/she will unfollow if she keeps resteeming too much. I recall her point is that your followers who actually read your content wants "more of you".

Resteeming this for my fellow noobs :)

haha... funny @wanderlass... And thank you for adding in your observations, that helps. Passing along points at our stage is a small step, but if we can help a few to have a better experience then it is worth the effort! ps... thanks for resteeming to your fellow noobs :)

You're welcome :)

Replying to this post again. Have a question and just checking if anyone here can help. I tried @resteemable and replaced the https:// with re but i get an error "could not get..".
Are you still able to use this? Thank you!

yes I'm reading it :)

You need to go to the url at the top of your browser and highlight the https:// and replace it with the r and the e re and it should work... try it again and let me know, if it doesn't send me the link as you have it typed in your url bar

Thank you! I tried it again and it worked this. You must have a lucky charm ;) I can now see they've resteemed my first ever travel blog. Excited! :)

awesome @wanderlass ... and keep it up, you're doing good :)

I learned a lot man! Thanks :)

Good @gyugmo, that is really nice to hear. You made me feel the effort to write this was worth it by your one comment! And you're welcome and stay in touch!

Because of you man I wanna learn more about steemit. Can give me some any tips on improving my page?

First, it is nice to meet you and I'm honored you are asking me questions. So thank you, I'm glad to help.

Second, I did look at your page and you are doing fantastic. You are getting great views and upvotes on your posts for someone that is as new as you (they are better than mine btw). So just keep posting the quality content and that part of your experience will take care of itself.

Third, as time continues you can build you audience by doing several things.

  1. keep putting out good content

  2. go to other posts of other people in the areas that you are interested in and look through and read/watch their material and comment on the good things with sincere commentary. There is a lot of good things in the steemit world to be interested in, so find those things and "engage" those people both in the comment section and also by following people that share your interests.

  3. Help others. Many people are shy to ask questions and if you can see something that can help them, many will appreciate and you will form a bond. (like me with you now that we have just had just 2 simple messages together). By helping others you also let others see more about your character and many people like to follow people that are knowledgeable, interesting, AND caring. (I always follow someone if I see that they help out someone else)

I think you are doing great and will be very successful on this platform. I can tell by the number of view you have already (and the upvotes) that you have quality content. Just remember this rule that I think of all the time:

Time + Energy + Engagement = More Satisfaction

I hope this helps and feel free to ask me anything else...

This really helps man! I do appreciate, Sir. Thank you very much. Since I'm starting to ask some questions, can I ask for the last time?

You can ask as many as you like. I'm here to help in any way I can.

Thanks Dave! It means a lot. My questions is all about the currency. What is STEEM, STEEM POWER, SBD, and can I leave my earnings here in my account if I decided not to touch it for a while? I mean if its limited time to stay here in your account.

I am going to be doing another one on this soon as I'm figuring it out now. I think I got it down, but I want to make sure before I say too much.

From what I believe this is true (and I have just started getting payouts, so you might want to wait until I post that by the weekend):

you get paid in 2 forms, STEEM POWER and SBD

STEEM POWER is what gives you influence over the system. The more STEEM POWER you have, the more power of your votes.

I believe the difference between STEEM POWER and STEEM is in the liquidity feature. You can only sell (or buy) STEEM for money or other currencies. To do this you would turn your STEEM POWER into STEEM and then sell it. There is a waiting period to cash out (details to come later), so if you want to cash out then you would need to turn your STEEM POWER to STEEM.

The reverse is also true. If you want more power, then you convert your STEEM to STEEM POWER by the button called "power up" in your wallet. (PS this is what I am doing now, I am adding to my power and not focused on taking any money out.)

both STEEM and SBD trade separately in the market and thus have different prices

you can hold them in account, because once you have earned them, they are yours to do with what you want (sell them, trade them, hold them)... So you don't have to worry about them disappearing (but don't lose your password and master keys or they will be lost forever. Note: another post coming)

So essentially you get 2 forms of "currency" STEEM POWER and SBD that have different values.

The other thing you can do (which also is another post) is to trade your SBD for STEEM and then convert that STEEM into STEEM POWER. (note: you can go to my wallet and scroll down through my transactions and see this)

To do this, once you earn SBDs then you go to the "currency market" located from the drop down menu on the upper right. Its a little tricky to describe how that works, but you will "buy STEEM"... you will input the ratio and put in the amount of SBD you have to sell (they have your total listed to make it easy). This will create the amount of STEEM you will get. Once you process that, you will see the SBD gone in your wallet and see the STEEM you purchased. THEN POWER UP.

Hope this helps, again I will write another piece by the weekend highlighting it with pictures.

Bottom line, you are going to be surprised how good you are gonna do when you understand this process. It is truly amazing.

Hello Sir @davemccoy ! i have just tried the method u have mentioned but i got this .. I think are charging for resteeming

No, you don't have to transfer to them, just hit the back button on your browser after you get to that screen. It will still resteem. Let me know that it came out right, because I'm sure @resteemable wouldn't want to charge you anything. That is for the people that have grown up from our stage and want to voluntarily contribute to help others. IT IS PURELY VOLUNTARY and doesn't affect whether he resteems your post or not.

I checked, he resteemed for you... no charge! Just remember that is for a "donation" from the bigger guys that are trying to help out us little guys.

Another fantastic post. Once again I learned something new in a simple and easy to understand way. Please keep them coming, I'm rapidly becoming a fan. Thank you.

Well thank you again @looksfarwoman :) ... Its nice to get feedback that it is helpful, it is what makes me write another one. And I'm honored, thank you :) stay in touch!

You're welcome. I'm looking forward to reading more from you in the future.....if you read my 'confused about Steemit' and crypto currency meltdown' posts, you'll understand why your simple to read and informative posts are an absolute lifeline. LOL

haha... I read them both and replied... Bottom line, you will probably learn all you need to know very soon. I myself prefer getting STEEM (and turning them into STEEM POWER because I'm looking long term and not trading). But you will learn if you keep asking questions and keep exploring new things... There is a lot to learn, but it fun (and profitable over the long run too) !

Great idea! This is absolutely one way to get noticed. I'm glad things are looking up for you!

Thank you very much @portcityhooligan... I will always remember how you gave me good info and the way I felt. I'm just trying to do my best to pass it along! So thanks for your compliment, it is meaningful!
