A Question About Building Up Steem Power
I have a humble question for more experienced users regarding building Steem Power.
I have been a user since August (as everyone can plainly see beneath my username due to the recent updates). I have had some great fun and good rewards on my posts. However, I can't help but snoop around in other user's wallets to see how they are allocating their rewards. I feel dirty doing that, but if that information is free to view by anyone, then it really isn't a crime.
I am seeing other users who have about the same number of posts and followers, but their Steem Power is in the thousands. I don't want to get greedy, but I have to wonder what am I not doing, or what am I doing wrong?
Do I need to start buying Bitcoin, then buy Steem, and then power up my account? I just feel like there is a lot of information I don't know and it is keeping me from reaching my full potential here. But I am having fun Steeming and love interacting with you all! Thanks for any input. I appreciate you reading my posts.

Might as well scoop up "free" Steem Power - the low hanging fruit - through Steemit initiatives such as @steemsports bets.
I've made as much as 14 Steem Power for taking the time to make a vote on the main post and the comment that corresponds to the team that I think is going to win, or gives the better payout to odds profile. That's 14 SP for less than 20 seconds of "work", if you can even call it that - that's a pretty good deal!
14SP X $0.154254/ Steem = $2.16 in 20 seconds = $388.80 per hour!
Granted, my average payout is closer to 2.5SP, or perhaps 3SP, but I still consider it a good deal for only averaging 20 to 25 seconds of my time.
I have looked into Steemsports. Although I do not follow sports, it can't hurt to make a bet.
It doesn't really matter whether you're a sports fan or not. It's free Steem Power with odds attached. I don't care the least for soccer, but I still make bets on those posts, and I've received a lot of SP from betting on them.
Just check out my transaction history on my wallet to get an idea for how much SP can be generated by simply taking 20 seconds to vote on the posts. We're talking between 3 and 4 events to bet on per day, at a 2.5 to 4.5ish SP payout per.
That's between 1 minute and 1 minute 20 seconds worth of voting to average about a 6 SP payout per day (42 SP per week).
Heck yeah, I will try it out. Thanks.
I agree with @jamesbrown -- you don't even have to care about the sports. Their goal is to help spread out the Steem payments to more people. And to give sports fans an outlet for their writing and analysis. So don't feel like you shouldn't be voting. You aren't really betting. You are just voting and they are distributing Steem.
Ok. I will give it a try. Thanks for your input!
Hi. Nice to meet you. Don't try to understand the mystery of who has what. Even though I joined in June I didn't make a post or comment until early August. We have similar reputation score and similar STEEM power if you take out the 150 or so STEEM I've powered up. Followed and upvoted.
Thank you for your reply and upvote. I appreciate it. I know I should not snoop around to see what others are doing. It only leads to envy and feelings of lack. God wouldn't like that. I guess I am seeking education and encouragement.
This community is an open book. It isn't snooping to see what people have posted and even what's is in their wallet. Although I admit that is a bit creapy. What I meant was just run your own race. We are all winners by being an active part of the incredible Steemit ecosystem
I agree. Thank you!
I am also wondering how I should use my upvoting power, since it can be raised and lowered. It seems I should be using 100 percent on posts I really believe in. Would that be the proper way to use that sliding scale?
I think at our power the slider makes very little difference. We you get 10,20 or 100k STEEM power worry about the ramifications
Ok, thanks for your response.
Hi @countryinspired
because I had fun on steemit I used circle to buy 90 steem
