The Difference Between Posting That Viral Coconut Oil Article on Facebook vs. Steemit (Likes vs. $$)

Around 2,000 people join Steemit every day, according to @stephenkendal's article of this morning.

What's Steemit??

You're looking at it right now.

See this message below, that says,
"Authors get paid when people like you upvote their posts"?

Yep. That's Steemit.
And "authors" - that's you.
And "
upvoters*" - that's you, too.
You get paid for both.

Well, not yet.
As long as you're still seeing that message, you can't get paid for anything yet. Because you haven't joined yet (it's free...).

Are you still posting for Likes?

Or are you already earning $$?

On June 16 an article on coconut oil went viral in the health community and surprised a lot of people. It was shared on Facebook a LOT.

A friend of mine shared it, too, and she got a few likes:

This morning, a smart Steemit user named @krnel picked up that same subject and wrote about it on Steemit:

  • He received 101 comments.
  • ...and $95 within 5 hours for his post.

And it has the potential to keep generating upvotes for a full seven days. Click here to see how much it is at this moment.

How's that all possible?

Steemit runs on the revolutionary technology called Blockchain. If you have never heard that word, don't worry, you will hear it every day from now on. In a few of years it will have changed pretty much every industry.

Steemit is the first project that uses the Blockchain for social media and allows content creators and curators to get paid for their contributions.

You get paid in STEEM and Steem Dollars - the digital currencies of Steemit - which you can exchange into your local currency.

YES, it is REAL money.
And NO, you don't have to put any of your own money in.

There is a learning curve of course, but why not join, and learn by doing?

You will find all the info you need here on Steemit, or in the Steemit chat.
If you want to save a little time, you can also get my Steemit Beginner's Guide on Fiverr.

The real reason to join Steemit

Steemit is a fairly new platform. It's only about one year old.

The more popular Steemit becomes, the more the price of STEEM will rise. If you don't have enough money to save for your future, Steemit allows you to do just that by earning it, instead of investing your own money.

At the time of writing this post, the STEEM is worth $2.10.
A month ago it was at $1.15.
Three months ago it was at $0.18.

Think about that...

I think it's important to remember that you're still investing, regardless of whether you use money or not. Your time & effort can be worth much more than your investment dollars, as is shown by the most successful posts here. Great illustration of the points though, let's make Steemit HUGE!

Exactly, in order to earn, you have to invest. Whether it is time or money.
Steemit allows us to use time. And fun, no?
But no investment = no earnings :)

Well it certainly beats the classic definition of 'work' :)
I love it here.

Have you considered that some people share this content not to earn likes or money, but just to inform people?

Yes. This post is not for those people, though :)

This post is written for a very specific target group who feels they have to post on Facebook etc. in order to gain likes and followers for status and/or potential future income (which may or may not ever come). Here they have an opportunity to earn money now. Instead or in addition to what they are already doing.

Many of them struggle with money and get burned out by the constant hustle. I want to share with them that they have new options now with Steemit.

Thank you for pointing this out, though, @gweigster, because of course other people than the intended target group read this, to. Like all the people who are already here on Steemit, who are also not addressed by this article. I wrote this so I could share it on other social media channels outside. :)

This is just the beginning of something great to come. We are just investing time and energy now but the end result will be great. Thanks for posting this.

I really believe so, too! Especially today :)

Good write up... I'm sure anyone who's still being abused by FB will think hard about why they still allow themselves to be exploited like that.

$0.18 to $1.15 to $2.10 in the last three months alone! Steemit is a unique investment opportunity

I'm actually not one of the people who feels abused by Facebook. I'm quite grateful for the opportunities for connection it provides me - with people all around the world.
Yes, there are certainly things that I do not like, but I try to focus on the good stuff :) At the moment, Facebook and Steemit can co-exist in my life - each for the specific benefits it provides.

I understand.

As a University student i would like to say steemit is a great platform. You actually get paid for curating good content! Imagine the amount of money you could have made by the time you graduate just for posting good content with other users for free.Great post

Absolutely! This could be a life saver for so many people!
