[ STEEMITIQUETTE #4 ] SHARE: Power is gained by sharing knowledge, not hoarding it.

Someone said that teaching is the most noble profession in the world. It is also said that we are all teachers in our own special ways. And not all teachers are found in the four corners of a classroom. Some of the best teachers are not even the educated ones.

Why am I talking about teachers when our subject is about sharing? Teachers are the first line of defense in terms of sharing knowledge. Sometimes the last, too.

But you don’t have to be a teacher to share your knowledge and expertise. In fact some teachers only “disseminate” knowledge but not sharing it. There is a huge difference.

Sharing has a deeper meaning than just spreading or communicating information. Sharing requires compassion, much like mentoring. In fact, the best person to share his knowledge is a mentor.

Sharing comes with the intention of making the recipient of your knowledge and expertise become a better person. A person who can do the same kindness to the guy next to him.

WHAT OTHER HAVE TO SAY

"Knowledge is like money (edit: or STEEM): to be of value it must circulate, and in circulating it can increase in quantity and, hopefully, in value." - Louis L’Amour

"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it." - Margaret Fuller

"In the long history of humankind (and animal kind too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed." - Charles Darwin

"The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself." - Oscar Wilde

"A man can only attain knowledge with the help of those who possess it. This must be understood from the very beginning. One must learn from him who knows." - George Ivanovich Gurdjieff

"As you can see, it is fairly easy to grasp the principles… A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle." - Father James Keller

Application

The goal of steemit.com is to provide valuable, original contents to its members in the hopes of gaining knowledge and information as guides for better living.

I don’t see this as an issue or a problem as of the moment and don’t expect this to be in the near future.

A community, like ours, lives and breathes through sharing, may it be information, monetary contribution, or something else that may be useful for the community and its members.

When the spirit of sharing becomes desecrated by personal ambitions, the true meaning of sharing becomes void and information becomes less valuable.
