Golden Nuggets #3 - Now giving away 80% of SBD earnings!
Golden Nuggets is a weekly edition highlighting good posts, authors and happenings that has yet to be fully discovered and rewarded as well as 'best of' moments from comment-sections from all over Steemit.
Big things are in plan for Steemit Golden Nuggets
And the whole model is now being changed so that 80% of the Steem Dollar earnings will be distributed equally to the nuggets themselves.
This way the nuggets can be polished and rewarded even more then with some extra votes. The rest, 20% will be used for tip-rewards and whats left, if any, for me to power up with.

First up we have a post by @stephmckenzie, who apparently is OK with her husband sleeping with other women
Say what now?
Apparently she knows she is in a bad relationship, and wants out. I'm no marriage counselor but that seems like a good direction to go. It's very interesting anyhow so give it a read!
New to Steemit? @cryptoiskey will show you everything you need to get started!
in this hard-worked post, @Crypto Is Key has made a complete crash-course for posting on Steemit, with videos covering each step clearly. Bookmark and send to your new steemit-recruits, you know the ones that probably will never start posting on their own if someone does not hold their hand. Well, @cryptoiskey is here to help, check out the post! It only has 26 votes so far!
LeeAnn's Delight Bringing pastries to Steemit!
@pastrygirl84 has Joined Steemit and Golden Nuggets just might just crown her 'head pastry baker of Steemit'
But she has some steemit-101 to do, I'm sure some helpful steemian will guide on tips & tricks for this, but good pictures are key. Steemit want to see your pastries as sharp and colorful as they deserve!
Her introduction post "I am a mother, a wife, a pastry artist, a home business owner and a homemaker."
Lead in our waters
@deviedev shares a great comprehensive and well-written post about the lead in our surroundings and what threat it is posing for humans. It's relevant, it's educational, it's a nugget.
The Legacy of Lead: Why the Toxic Nightmare is Here to Stay
@lordedington does work in After Effects and has made this post with the Steemit logo! Looks amazing!
Here is his casual introduction post Howdy
We want to see more of what you can do with your skills that could benefit Steemit!
Steemit would like some kind of verification from your account though, @lordedington, esp since you've now got a Golden Nugget Reward coming your way!

Great pick with @deviedev's post. Lead in the water is a serious issue that people need to give more consideration to. It's a quite pervasive and highly toxic metal that we should be avoiding in our diets at all costs!
Is there a way of testing for high concentrations of lead in drinking water or do you have to send in a sample for testing? Any warning indications besides harm on living organisms?
There is no at home test for Pb that I know of that has results you can check for yourself. To my knowledge you must send a sample off for analysis, which is time consuming.
Science Lesson Time:
Typically Pb from pipes does not get into the water supply, this is because the bad form of Pb is not elemental but rather the ionic form free Pb2+, under neutral to basic conditions (such as drinking water) would be in the form of an insoluble Pb(OH)2 and would get filtered away/removed. However situations like Flint Michigan arise when people do not maintain the proper alkalinity of the water, resulting in the release of free Pb2+ (as more acidic conditions break down the Pb(OH)2, the basic form of the ion).
Hi guys! It warms my heart to see you discussing lead :)
@justtryme90 is right, to test properly you will want to send a water sample to a reputable company. That being said, most water systems in the United States already test for lead themselves. You should be able to access the results by reviewing the annual reports. I know that a lot of people on Steemit are outside of the US, though, and therefore do not have the same regulations/acess to information.
Aside from physical symptoms, there are a few things that can alert you to the presence of lead in your water. This include taste, odor, and color, as well as staining on laundry, faucets/fixtures, and the inside of sinks. If you suspect that lead-based materials were used in your plumbing system (age of your home is a good indicator), water leakage can indicate corrosion, which increases the possibility of lead to leaching into the water.
The Environmental Protection Agency published a great resource on water testing that I recomend taking a look at. You can access it here.
If the tragedy of Flint is to serve as an example for something, its that while the US government does test for Pb, it might be in everyone's best interest to test their own water, or at least for someone out of a group of friends in a similar area. Government is great, but with something as serious as Pb contamination, and with the prevalence of Pb pipes through out the US, a little bit of extra testing might go a long way to ensure that your health is safe with the water you use to bathe, cook, and wash clothes with.
It's so cool to get recognized for one of my posts on my one week anniversary as a member of the Steemit community. I'm really enjoying it here. There's some excellent reading material, and a perfect opportunity for me to write in my own voice (I can't do that on platforms where people know me personally as a friend, relative, or ghostwriter). Whoever brought my post to your attention, I thank them wholeheartedly. And, thank you, too, @btotherest. I truly appreciate the recognition, and hope to provide more quality content to Steemit. I'm following you now. This is a great Steemmag you've got here, and I can't wait to read some more golden nuggets by other authors.
I will put your comment in the post as well -- but my wife just joined SteemIt and her Introduce post is freakin' awesome . . . .
Also, how do you collect the comments? I assume that it is some form of blockchain reading . . . . but could you give some details?
Now following you . . . . .
Cool, i'll check it out! I should get them as mentions/replies. Hope that will work for now and that I don't miss nuggets !
Gotta luv dem Golden Nuggets :D.
These are some great finds. I'm definitely enjoying how Golden Nuggets is coming along, keep up that good work.
Thank you! Means a lot ! Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements! Which one did you like best?
I was very much into @deviedev's article. They were all worth the read, but that one is pretty informational and definitely interesting.
Sorry been sick as a dog so a bit delayed on this comment. Awesome post and thanks for the mention it's highly appreciated. Great nuggets all round for sure. Great to see some that slip through the cracks get some exposure. Look forward to the next one.
