An Olympian Still Needs Our Help Steemit! (Emergency Pool Meeting Called!)

in #steemit8 years ago

I'm not going to lie I was disappointed yesterday in the performance of my most important post so far.  In my mind it was more important than my other posts to date, because the money was to help out two time Olympian Cyrus Hostetler.  If you haven't seen the post yet.  Please read it right now.

So here is my video rant about the situation yesterday.  I guess I started dreaming that we could hit a grand slam with this one and really give Cyrus a fat stack of Benji's.  For those outside the United States that means a thick stack of hundred dollar bills.

The Negative

The most annoying part of the whole thing is I had about 7 or 8 different people question if I was "real" or not. Daaaafuuuq??? As if I had just made a random post to just get money for myself even despite the fact I have a picture of myself throwing the javelin and also a picture of myself at a previous pool meeting holding up a DVD about throwing the javelin. It was pretty clear it was 100% legit.

I feel like these same people questioning me probably vote for every girl who gets on here with Steemit.com written on a piece of notebook paper who was most likely hired for $5 or $10 off a Fiverr.com gig and told to hold up the little piece of paper that says that.

The payout was way lower than I expected.  I'm not going to lie.  I got my hopes up thinking we could really make an impact on Cyrus's expenses.  It ended up being $137.963 Steem Dollars and Steem Dollars are only going for $0.78 right now on the exchanges.  So basically it is going to be around $100 all said and done.

This was at the same time that I saw a stoner who made a grilled cheese sandwich get a $900 payout and a four line comment got paid out over $4,000.  No one questions if the person who wrote the comment is "real"  or if the guy with the munchies really cooked the sandwich or if he just grabbed the images off Pinterest.

The Positive

There were over 150 upvotes and I want to thank everyone who helped out with that.

Also every bit counts and to even be able to donate the $100 is a good thing.  There is no other platform online that I could have posted the blog and generated that much overnight basically.

Going Forward

For this post the same situation is in play.  All the Steem Dollars earned on this post will be donated to Cyrus.  Please consider upvoting!

I started to wonder if instead of doing a real post like I did maybe I would have generated more money for Cyrus if I would have just made a fake account and hired a girl off of Fiverr for $5 or $10. And then just gave that money to Cyrus.

The point I'm trying to make is that if I wanted to make a "fake" post why would I do a post about a male javelin thrower when I could pay $5 and hire a very beautiful female Fiverr model?  (No offense Cyrus)  But you guys get what I'm saying.

Hopefully we can get some upvotes on this post and get some more funds for Cyrus.  As far as the money locked up in Steem Power it isn't easily liquidated, but I can work with Cyrus to figure out a way to get that to him when I power down in the future or something.

Thank you for reading my post!  Please Upvote!

That was a great pool meeting, very good points about how we spend our upvotes, fiverr models holding Steemit signs and the barrier to entry for Olympians in need. You & Cyrus have my support!

Thank you for attending the pool meeting and thank you for your support!

You have my vote again - and every time - for what it is worth. Which is not much, I am afraid.

I've seen the comment about ponzi too but I didn't follow it up. The amount is seek. Tell the author to transfer some money to your account. I mean it.

As I've said to you before I wish you the best of luck with this Cyrus quest.
You're an amazing man for trying, and you're putting everything into it!

@bobdownlov Thank you I really appreciate it and even though the payout was a lot lower than we hoped I have taken the first steps by transferring the Steem Dollars to Poloniex to be converted to BTC and then shot over to GDAX for USD conversion.

Please tell me what will you get out of it. I am considering withdrawing some SBD just as a proof of the concept. I registered Bittrex account to do it...

@ervin-lemark Well the Steem Dollars I got from that was $137 and it was only selling for $0.78 on Poloniex. I converted to Bitcoin but then Bitcoin was falling during that time to. So the $107 or whatever sunk a little lower. Basically what I figure is that I'm going to get him $130 out of this and I'm going to take some of the money I got from some of the previous blogs and utilize it to raise more funds for him.

Thanks for letting me know. I will withdraw some SBD tomorrow through Bittrex and come back with the results. I would just like to determine what is the best / least expensive way to make a quick withdrawal.

Take care and keep the faith. You are doing a great work!

Thank you! We will make something happen.

You need to get some boobs @brianphobos, that's where you're going wrong! In fact a post titled 'My Steemit implants by brianphobos' could also generate some money too :) Did you see my Steemit bird in a bikini post? Now she was a fit bird.

I wish my Upvotes were worth more, then you could give Cyrus a big fat cheque.

@opheliafu Yeah I know! Boobs are worth more than their weight in gold on here. Yeah I saw the Steemit bird in a bikini....hahahahah

I think you should do the fivver $5 model as an experiment, do your best to create a fake profile and if it works well then continue with the profile to keep earning more money.. and then reveal the truth after a while

@craig-grant It might have to come down to that.

I sympathise with your frustration. I do think most people suspect those girl posts are fake but vote in order to get some kind of curation reward and also get some visibility on their comments. Would be interesting for someone to try the Fiverr fake post thing as an experiment to see what happens - then make a later post discussing it making it clear how easy it is to do.

@thecryptofiend I agree that people just know they are fake and figure they will get the curation reward. I saw one post where it was clearly some guy stripping pictures off facebook and instagram and people kept telling "her" to "verify" herself with a picture of her with a Steemit sign and "she" pretended to be clueless saying how she verified herself with her facebook account when she made the Steemit account. I just laughed and shook my head. "She" kept posing and getting crazy upvotes.

@chriscrypto Thanks for attending the pool meeting!
