Steemit, the web and the webb

After a week and more of waiting, yesterday I finally had my Steemit account approved. Writing the first post, looking arround, getting the first comments - it was great fun to interact with people from all corners of the world. Biking home I realised why I liked it so much - it reminded me of the web 1.0, of Myspace and Mozilla and countless hours spent on forums that don't exist anymore. And then a question arose: is the blockchain web (the webb of the title) destined to repeat the story of the web as we know it? If so, at what speed? When do you think we will have the blockchain-based Facebook, Tinder and Uber? Excluding financial services, will the webb be able to offer brand new opportunities to the end user?

At present, the greatest obstacle is the low number of operations per second that a blockchain system can sustain, and I read somewhere that a conservative estimate is to have a Facebook-like system for a few million users by the end of 2018. What's next?

I expect newspapers to jump on Steemit in the next few months (after all, getting paid to write is what journalists do for a living), with the effect of increasing the news quality, which in turn will attract more readers and interactions. And I hope projects working to make blockchain really scalable, such as https://eos.io/, will speed up the pace of innovation. Stay tuned!
