I don't feel like FB and Twitter banning ads is surprising or a big deal. Neither of them liked ads for financial services to begin with, and with the world of crypto being so unregulated it just wasn't good for their platofrm and potentially could have caused them reputational harm. Plus let's be honest 99.9999% of the ads were not even ICO's or legit companies it was bullshit buy my "how to trade crypto course for $1200" ads so they were low quality ads to begin with.
I agree that some of them are scams but don't you think some ads other than cryptos might also be scam?
Yes and no, most ads on FB in my experience are tee shirts and stuff like that so probably not a scam and if it is its $10. With crypto its in the financial services space which is always a more closely watched space by state regulators, advertisers, etc. Your going to have more scams in the financial services space than you are people selling products.
I would say a lot of the make $50,000 dropshipping on shopify ads those are all "scams" and probably shouldn't be allowed to stay up either but again I think financial services stuff tends to be higher dollar and is easier for people to scam so I get where they are comming from. You can't sell diet products or I believe dating products via FB ads either so its not as if they are picking on crypto. They know what industries are more high risk and have more bad actors so they are cautious with those industries
But banning a legit thing for a scam is what not making sense to me.
There were more scams than there were legit things. Supporting crypto companies is not Facebooks priority, its their own site and their own reputation so they will gladly pass up a few advertising dollars than be associated with helping promote a scam. If you read Facebook Ads TOS I don't believe they ever allowed financial services to advertise period so this was really just a clarification of a policy more so than a new policy. They also don't allow pay day loans and things like that to be advertised and neither does Adwords.
