Description

wow. whoa. amazing.

i want nothing more in the world to purchase some cheap land somewhere in spain or portugal off the beaten track and for this company to come with it's technology and come and 3d print my little home on it -- i mean, come on -- this makes sense.

The home was unveiled in March 2018 in Austin, TX and was built using a prototype of the mobile printer we are creating for New Story and the developing world.

The production version of the printer will have the ability to print a single story, 600-800 square foot home in under 24 hours for less than $4,000. As a part of this effort, ICON has developed cutting-edge materials tested to the most recognized standards of safety, comfort and resiliency and is designed to function with nearly zero waste production methods and work under unpredictable constraints (limited water, power, and labor infrastructure) to tackle housing shortages.

the fact that you can have a house in twenty four hours is insane to me, imagine having the decking and base all ready to go and they come along with the frame and the robot prints your house out for you -- i even love the curves in it, i wonder if you can have some control over the layout in the space they print too.

gotta follow this one up! :)

It sounds so unbelievable to me that the people right now are that far in technology that they are able to print a entire house! This one looks really pretty, especially for this price!

That's amazing @teamhumble

I'm having a similar idea. Buy land in Spain/Port ...maybe with a few ruined buildings on it and a water supply and just slowly improve it. A well. An outdoor cooking area, compost outdoor privy, solar shower. Then share it with people who want to park a van on it for a while, or maybe a yurt/tent/small dwelling. Like a sort of techno-gypsy encampment that changes over time. There's A LOT of potential sites for sale.

we need to get together for beers and a chat! :)

Yup, sounds good to me. I'm around in Brum this Sat ;)

weekends are difficult for me because i have my daughter with me, but we should certainly meet and discuss, might be able to assist each other long term with space, funds, effort, logistics.

Nice design too!

is it not wonderful? i love the idea of this rocking up and printing out the house. would love to time lapse that too.

well thanks, that's super awesome of you ;)

I heard rumors of pop-up bucky-dome designs, with the cheapest from cardboard triangles, offering cheap solutions too. It is said even the cardboard option can be made waterproof for years with super repellant spray on stuff!
