Steemgar Development Update

in #steemgar6 years ago (edited)

Introduction

Steemgar, created by @igster, is a STEEM implementation of the famous game but now you can earn STEEM by winning the game or through other players upvotes.

You can have all the details of how this works here.

Latest Development

People have been earning steem for playing a GAME for about 2 weeks now! I don't know if you get it but it's a pretty big deal. Maybe Steem wasn't designed to do "gaming" but I can't think of another blockchain that can do that right now!

Stats & Leaderboard

@crispycoinboys has been compiling stats and leaderboards. He published them under every game (I think) and also publish the "Steemgar Stats for All Time" and the "Steemgar Stats for the Past 7 Days".

Squashing Bugs, More Games and...Open Source?

There is still some bugs that need to be dealt with right now. Once the big one have been squashed, @igster told me that we would start to increase the number of games (every 30 minutes) and potentially bring this open source.

The number of players increases from week to week. It seems to hover around the 20 to 30 players per game. More games mean more rewards and more rewards brings in more players!

He might have to run multiple servers if this game because anymore popular.

ABOUT OPEN SOURCING STEEMGAR...

If @igster ever get this game open source, I will give be backing this open source GitHub through utopian.io with a massive upvote. Ideally, I would like to be him that moderates what is a good entry and what isn't...but for that I would have to talk with him and @utopian-io.

Conclusion

Go play! There is a lot of fun to be had and much rewards ready for the picking!

Sort:

I have played there several times but still no first place lol

Once I eat what looked like a giant circle and it ended up dividing me into smaller circles, I thought it would make me bigger damn

I just need to learn how to control the game better since all I do is move my mouse around.

Still, its pretty fun to have a game like this, I am sure in the future we could find a way to reward winners in bigger and more complexes games.

"Once I eat what looked like a giant circle and it ended up dividing me into smaller circles"
That's a virus. :) If you are bigger than that, it divides you, if you are smaller, you can go through it safely.

"since all I do is move my mouse around."
Actually, you can half yourself with the space button. That's how you can jump on and eat smaller players, or run from bigger players (because the smaller blobs are faster). But you have to be careful with it because for a few seconds you can't unite the smaller pieces, so even a smaller cell can eat you if he is bigger than those small pieces of yours.
You can experiment with the W button too, it can be helpful in some situations (I don't use it too many times), you divide yourself with that to smaller pieces too, but without the jump.
Another advice is to use F11 at the beginning to play Full Screen. Good luck! :)

I would play more and I think about taking breaks throughout the day to try a game. Unfortunately I seem to constantly miss the hour mark.

The couple of games I have played were challenging and interesting.

I've checked out agar.io and i think it's really a cool game and a nice initiative. BUT i don't support the idea of this game being created on the steem blockchain. Steem on the Steem blockchain was created to be mined by the "proof of brain" system through blogging and writing. I think creating a game on the steem blockchain is really not working along with this plan @crypyoctopus. If more platforms like this are created on the steem blockchain, i believe that the system will change from what it was originally created for. I believe you see a little light in what i am trying yo say @cryptoctopus. Making me understand better and clearing the ideas (which may be wrong) i have in my head will be greatly appreciated.
The Steemit Pundit

What do you think about DLive, DTube, Dmania, Utopian.io etc? They are really far from writing and blogging too and they are created on the Steem Blockchain.
"Steem on the Steem blockchain was created to be mined by the "proof of brain" system through blogging and writing."
Everything can change, evolve. It really depends on what people want, what kind of ideas they have. I'm really happy for DLive for example as well and love to see new projects like steemgar too. I'm sure I'm not alone with this.

See your point as well, @cryptobserver. I totally support all these projects as well. I just believe it's going too far. I hope somebody sees my point

I think that most people genuinely enjoy gaming more than they do reading about the latest shitcoin someone is trying to shill. To each their own I guess.

Blockchains just offer forms of accounting for now, advanced blockchains with even lower than 3 sec block time would be ideal to host game data on for game stats, right now steemgar just seems to connect to the blockchain in the capacity of announcing the winners, and that's fine. Speaking of, it seems to have not posted the winning message a few times... but I guess that's an issue they're trying to fix.

I see where you are going @charitybot and i totally agree with you.
My point though is the idea on the game being on the STEEM BLOCKCHAIN
I totally support crypto gaming and blockchain based games that are on other platforms and are backed by other cryptocurrencies.
What i am trying to say is, STEEM blockchain was not created for this.
Still stand corrected. The Steemit Pundit

Ethereum wasn't created to be an ICO machine and here we are. Bitcoin was created to be a peer to peer digital cash and now it's use for everything under the sun (see colored coin, etc). The internet was never planned to be used by so much porn and cat videos...yet this is where we are.

Well, true actually. Everything changes to fit the new system.

i disagree with your thoughts steemit pundit because you think that brain not used while playing the game, i suggest you consider playing the game first and you will observe that this is totally brain game and the one who has most powerful brain can win the game.

From the Steem Whitepaper

Man, that's a really abstract Abstract.

If we assume that at the end of the day, Steem's value is dependent on the value of the platform, which it must be since more STEEM means more influence, and this influence is worth more if the platform is worth more, then any activity which makes people spend more time on Steemit or other Steem-based platforms will increase Steem's value.

seems an exciting game

Yeah the game is great! Big thanks to @cryptoctopus and @igster

I've never played agar.io before but playing steemgar for like 10 days, 5-6 times daily and I have to say, it's really fun! The game mechanics are really simple, I could say it's an "Easy to learn, hard to master" game, so everybody should give it a try! (you might even earn some Steem for it!) It would be cool as well, if there would be a steemgar game every 30 minutes! Thank you igster for making it and thank you cryptoctopus for supporting it!

Thanks @cryptoctopus for this great information I can't just something wonderful as this has been going on in Steemit and still I didn't know about. Thanks ones more for this great post

It is a great and fun game, but it seems many became very good at it, so they beat me. There are a lot of strategies that many use and the ones who are most skilful wins in the end. Nevertheless, it is refreshing thing in Steemit.

Earn while you play, its a nice thing, I didn't love the graphics that much but the concept is awesome, and all of the above in the list we earn while we play. You have talked about this game various times but I haven't played it, maybe one day soon I will.

I think if tge concept is nice graphics can always improve over time. So why dont you come on board lets play and earn. I will be there tonight!

I've found that all the best multiplayer games have very little emphasis on graphics, they're pretty much barebones and are just enough to convey some important information and not much else.

Very nice event. Congratulations. Punctual and systematic. This is a beautiful achievement. But sometimes I noticed there were no votes. Is there a reason for this?

SteemAuto acting up unfortunately.

The game is gripping and exciting. Thank you for everything.

I want to play this game. But I do not understand anything
If I lose the game playing this game, then any money can be cut???

no if you loss the game then no money cut but if you able to be in the top 3 at the end of the game then you will get some steem and sbd. so play and enjoy.

thanks i will try

quite informative will definitely give it a try, joined discord channel and good work @igster
