To New Beginnings
"I don't care what anyone says, I'll be the first one to hold him," said my mama childishly as we were preparing to get to the airport to receive my brother, who was coming to Pakistan from England after almost a year. My brother had a son while he was there, the first child in our family. My mom has been a patient of hypertension and depression for a very long time, but since her grandson was born, all she has been doing is:
- Talking about him
- Thinking about him
- Praying for him
Everything revolves around him. Since my brother wasn't in Pakistan, my mom didn't have a choice other than talking on video calls all day long. She has an entire gallery of screenshots on her phone filled with her grandson's pictures taken from these video calls.
He was born on the 26th of March at 5:55 in Canterbury. Being thousands of miles away from him was unbearable for us, especially for my mom. I guess that's what babies do. They make you loving. They bring out the caring side of you.
To celebrate their arrival, we organized a little homecoming party for them. With pretty lights, beautiful balloons, a tasty cake, and gifts, we welcomed the baby and his parents into our home. It was a strange yet wonderful feeling to have a new family member amongst us.
These are some of the pictures from the welcoming party that we threw for him. I don't think he'll remember any of this when he grows up, so it might seem unnecessary, but my family didn't seem to agree with me on this. 😂
I wonder who his favorite uncle will be. He's got four to choose from. I'll make sure it's me. I can't imagine him having anyone other than me as his favorite.
Oh, and I forgot to mention. His name is Ibrahim. Say Masha Allah.
Looking at Ibrahim sleeping peacefully right next to me as I write this post, I whispered a silent prayer of thanks. He is indeed a blessing, a gift that has brought so much joy into our lives. I know that no matter what challenges we face, we would face them together, as a family. And with Ibrahim in our lives, I know we can handle anything. To new beginnings....

Haven't been able to close my eyes since I saw her 4 years ago. Eyes are set on her. The problem is would her dad agree 😬🥴

Her father is quite an intimidating man. I think I'll have apply this technique on him:
Seems amusing. But can cause problems in the family and in society. I don't know how closely you live by tradition and how important relationships with her parents are to you, presumably yours too.
Is there no other way to convince such an intimidating man?
Hahaha of course. I was just kidding, can't even imagine having this approach. I'll get kicked out from the front gate 😂
Now that you asked, I'm very respectful towards her father and would never want to cause any troubles for her in the future. Talking about traditions, here in Pakistan, we have the Islamic culture and in an Islamic culture a boy and a girl shouldn't intermingle before marriage, but we have been given the right to choose our partner to our preferences. We cannot marry without the 'blessings' of our parents, any marriage done without the consent of parents, wouldn't have any significance and similarly on the other hand no parent has the right to force their child to marry anyone that their child doesn't want to
So what do we do? We have a very respectful approach and usually in our culture we have this sense of حیا (respect) which basically means we don't talk about our 'lover' to our parents openly. What happens is, the girl tells her mother that she wants to marry this particular boy. The mother conveys it to the father and when the father agrees to have a talk with the boy and the boy's father, the boy's father gets in touch with the girl's father.
After that the boy's side of the family visits the girl's family and they meet and greet. It's a beautiful system.
Her father is a high profile man. He values and respects hardworking, confident and strong men. Strong not only physically, but financially and emotionally as well. I'm 100% sure he'd want someone who can provide financial and societal security to her daughter. Who's kind with her and loves her. He'd definitely huge demands, I'm sure but hey, I'm not complaining, but trying my very best to be the best version of myself. The first impression would be the key. I'd need to be presentable and confident. Would need s lot of prayers as well:))
