Get ready to gamble away all your hard-earned STEEM/SBD - SteemDice is here :) [Play via Steem wallet tutorial inside]

In case you haven't heard the news yet, yesterday @pharesim announced the launch of SteemDice.net. You can read about it in this post. This is a great addition to the network, as users now have another fun thing to do with their STEEM/SBD that they earn through the site!

SteemDice is a game where you can wager your STEEM/SBD on the outcome of a random dice roll. You wager an amount, choose your odds of winning (between 1% and 99%), and then roll the dice. If you predict right, you win. If you predict wrong, you loose. There is a 2% house edge for the payouts.

There are two versions of the game. One is to use the SteemDice.net website UI. The other is sending the commands directly via your wallet. (Tutorials below.) I played a few rounds via the direct wallet interface, and it was quite a bit of fun!

Here are the steps to play via the SteemDice.net website:

  1. Go to SteemDice.net.
  2. Choose whether to play with STEEM or SBD.
  3. Choose a wager amount.
SBD: Between 0.01 and 25.00 SBD
STEEM: Between .01 and 100 STEEM
  4. Choose your odds.
    Between 1 and 99 (percent)
  5. Click "Roll Dice".
  6. Enter your Steem username and private active key when prompted.

Here are the steps to play via your Steem wallet:

  1. Choose whether to play with STEEM or SBD.
  2. Click "Transfer" in your Steem wallet.
  3. Choose a wager amount.
SBD: Between 0.01 and 25.00 SBD
STEEM: Between .01 and 100 STEEM
  4. Choose a number between 1 and 99.
  5. Choose whether you think the random number will be "higher" or "lower" than the number you choose.
  6. Transfer the wager amount to the @steemdice1 account (notice the 1), using a memo in the format of: {"type":"lower","number":50}, where you put either "upper" or "lower" in the first field, and your number (1-99) in the second field.
  7. Click "Submit"
  8. Enter your private active key when prompted.

Here are a few examples of the wallet memos:

  1. {"type":"lower","number":50} 50% chance of winning, if the number is below 50.
  2. {"type":"lower","number":25} 25% chance of winning, if the number is below 25.
  3. {"type":"higher","number":25} 75% chance of winning, if the number is above 25.

Good luck, and have fun! Remember not to gamble anything you can't afford to lose ;)

Personally I think this is amazing. People love gambling. Go hang out in a 7-11 for at least 15 minutes and you'll probably see at least 3 people buy lottery tickets. Gambling is big money and big money for Steemit is good for Steemit.

Thank you for this great tutorial!

Let me add though: there's absolutely no reason for the inconvenient way of using the steemit wallet. Both sites use the same technology of local signing and never send your keys anywhere.
I'd even go further and say steemdice is safer than this site:

  • it's hosted at github, and any change to the code is fully transparent
  • there's no user provided content which could use bugs to get your keys

This is awesome and a great way to get the STEEM & SBD moving around.
I do hope that there is a warning on site too with a link to gambler's anonymous or some such place. It's the responsible thing to do IMHO.
I might try it just to try it. :)

A warning is planned already. I didn't know G.A., will add a link to them too! Thanks!

Let's lose it all!

Excellent news sir @timcliff, thank you very much for the information

great post :)

I tried it. fun. :) had 18.777 now I have 20.569. cool

There's a not too different one from @fasl but that happens every 6 hours.
Most you lose is 4 times a day. :-)

This is awesome. I personally love to play a little dice once in a while! I visited the website but didn't log in since I'm on the phone don't have the passphrase saved here. I didn't see any chatroom, that would be a nice thing to implement in the future.

I thought about that, but as the only server involved right now is a steem node it would have to be implemented on the blockchain by sending memos attached to a 0.001 Steem send, and that's a bit too hacky for my likings ;-)
Maybe at a later point in time.

I understand, well great work anyway! :)
