Better Steemit: Embed Video Implementation
Some time passed since my last post about possible improvements for Steemit. Unfortunately, none of them were taken into consideration and the only recent change is - feed notification update in the right top corner area, which actually is a bit annoying.
On the other hand, I have a found a great extension by @armandocat. As you can see, this extension solved many issues that I have mentioned in the previous articles. That's why I will continue this Better Steemit series - perhaps they might be implemented in extension and then in Steemit itself.
Today's suggestion is - proper Embed Video feature.
The only videos that work are - Youtube and Vimeo. Here is an example. We add youtube url and it automatically appears in our post:
Same with Vimeo example, which works just fine:
Now, let's say I want to share a video from kickstarter. If we add just a link, it does not work.

The last try is to add embed video code and still nothing:

(This code is without < in the beginning and > at the end).
When we add html embed code, here is what we get:

The same problem is with embed facebook and twitter videos, they just don't work. Maybe Kickstarter is not the best example, since it is not so popular for Steemit community, but social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram should certainly be taken into consideration.
So my final thought is - Steemit Dev's, please add the possibility to use embed videos in Steemit posts. Youtube and Vimeo is not enough :)
Incentives & Benefits
I would very much like to see direct embedded content based on D-Tube, the decentralized video sharing platform. The platform offers content creators the benefits of security and is censorship resistant. As the platform continues to develop, it may be able to offer mechanisms that enable monetization of content as well. For example, content creators could publish a range of materials free of charge and other materials under different pricing schemes. Consumers could have the option purchase on a per item basis or elect to subscribe to a range of other content. Payment for this content could be enabled within Steemit itself and thus provide a friction-less purchase and compensation scheme. Furthermore, creators would have a foundation upon which they can establish viable income streams and consumer would have ready access to a broad range of content.
Tight integration between Steemit and D-Tube could offer additional collaborative benefits such as live streaming of sporting events, concerts, etc. I can imagine tremendous opportunities for both content creators and consumers in this scenario, it's a win-win.
I totally agree, but at this point, we can't even share facebook videos, which is very sad.

After thinking things over a bit I realized that you could use Steemitchat as a vehicle to help promote your concerns to a broader audience. By promoting these concerns to the Steemit community at-large, there is the possibly that enough people will encourage the Steemit Devs to implement the embed video feature for Facebook, etc.
