Steembay Auction - Vintage Snail Mail! Six Old Covers from 1897-1938

in #steembay7 years ago (edited)

There's something very Crypto about these old stamped covers..

First you have the official oval-shaped George Washington stamp embossed & printed on each envelope - part of a BLOCKCHAIN of issued and carefully accounted-for envelopes.

Second, you have the addition of a gummed stamp on two of the envelopes covering the cost of an extra ounce - perhaps some photos had been shared - think INSTAGRAM.

Thirdly, each envelope was properly hand-stamped with the date, time and post office of origin - think NODE and HASH.

Of course you have the main attraction, for me at least, is the amazing hand-writing of these people - particularly the ones who would have learned to write before the First World War - think BEFORE THE INTERNET.

For example, the first cover in the upper left shows the handwriting of an older person.. that's Victorian Era script on a cover written in the 'teens.

Contrast this with the cover with the dark blue 3-cent Washington from 1938. Clearly this is a more "modern" and hurried script from a younger post-WW1 hand.

I enjoyed having these around, but it's time for them to go to whoever wants them... for a starting bid of 1 SBD.

Please examine the photos and read the information at the bottom of this post explaining the SteemBay auction process. It's pretty straightforward and not unlike other online auctions.

Some of the flaps are torn as you can see in the photos. Although the stamps are fairly common and are not rarities they still make for an interesting display.
