Steem And Me - 5 Questions Answered challenge by @snowpea

in #steemandme6 years ago

So @snowpea who came up with the amazing Love it or Shove it challenge has done it again with this The New Challenge I'm Starting: Steem And Me - 5 Questions Answered where we share answers to questions to learn a little more about each other. These challenges are great fun for a post, an it helps us engage each other in a different way, because we learn more about what each think and do.

Like most challenges you can tag people to join in, but personally I think if you see a challenge and think "I know just what I would post about that" do it - don't wait to be tagged it isn't really a requirement and often I find it hard to either remember people to be tagged or work out who has been already. So if you like the concept just do your own post - and tag your friends in too!

Anyway, let's get this challenge started.

1.) In my opinion, what are the two greatest aspects of the steem platform?

This is a tough one, because I found over my time so many wonderful things about this platform and just narrowing them down to 2 is really hard. Personally though I think the first and foremost has to be the people, I really have met so many incredible people from around the world through Steem - many of whom I now consider friends (they might have a different opinion lol) and I honestly enjoy reading and engaging with the posts of so many - in fact so many I struggle to keep up but I try my best to keep up. Second has to be the opportunity to just post your content, whatever it might be your day, your photos, maybe writing or a poem - post what you like and you earn a reward for it - like people say including @robertandrew in a recent post - no other social media, forum, networking website does that - you post something and can earn cryptocurrency rewards - and whatever they are it's much much better then posting on a social media for nothing at all.

2.) What are the 2 largest complaints I have concerning the Steem platform?

Absolutely for me the first has to be the difficultly for posts to get recognition, I'm going to shamelessly promote my #SublimeSunday tag but it is the perfect example - the posts and content people are posting using it every week are incredible - yet they rarely generate anything like the rewards they deserve based on work put it. And it's a visibility problem not a post quality problem, this is repeated for everyone the only real way to get noticed is Trending - and to do that you need rich friends or to pay to get your post noticed. I know it is being worked on and we could soon see improvements but for now it upsets me every time I see a great quality post that is just not getting the visibility it deserves.

Second, spam and phishing links - it's frustrating that the value we have here is ruined by the minority trying to steal from others or just abuse the system - we are fortunate we have so many active Steemians working to keep it to a minimum or stamp it out like @steemcleaners and the Witness @themarkymark who is tirelessly working to stop people gaming the blockchain.

3.) What 2 moments are the most memorable to me?

The first has to be without doubt waking up one day last November and checking Steemd.com to find @fulltimegeek had delegated 5000 Steem Power to me. I had around 105 Steem Power of my own - so it was a massive difference. My worthless upvote was suddenly worth something and it gave me an entirely new outlook on Steem that I continue to this day - long after his inspired delegation project has ended the inspiration he gave me and many others lives on through @friendsofgondor - and many of our favourite Steemians were part of this. As a whale he posts rarely, but as an individual and person I have the upmost respect for him - truly he created an entire network of incredible people on here by looking at engagement statistics, and you can find out all you need to know by asking the master of stats @abh12345 part of @steemcommunity Witness with @paulag

Second would be joining @thealliance in January this year, before that I had really just been floundering around doing my own thing. I had worked out that engagement and commenting on posts helped bring you followers and upvoters - but this was my first real entrance into the Steem "Community". The people I met through this, initially @tattoodjay and @edthecandian and then moving on to discover the leader @enginewitty - it led me to discover so many people that I can not mention them all - and make long lasting friendships with people who really have been incredibly kind and supportive for my own post one here. I could go on all day mentioning them, but to name just a few @nainztengra, @jatinhota, @derangedvisions, @fiftysixnorth, @saffisara, @snook, @ecoinstant, @dreemsteem, @bluefinstudios, @deadgrlsuppastar (she struggles to find time to post but did a new one yesterday - worth checking out) @fishyculture, @redheadpei, @deerjay and so many 100's of others - I try my best to get around all the posts I can, incredible people and always thinking of others before themselves.

4.) What are the two most important lessons I've learned in my time as a Steemian?

One - Your posts are only as good as the people who seem them, and getting people to your posts is the key to success. Of all the ways to do this the simplest and most gratifying is to be active, engaging and comment on other peoples posts. People remember who leaves a comment on their work and will tend to reciprocate.

Two - It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

5.) Out of my entire time here, what 2 posts am I most proud of?

To be honest I struggle here because as previously mentioned I am no amazing content creator, I am however proud about taking the step to become a Witness so my Witness Application Post is probably my proudest because it took around 3 days to write I was so undecided how to make it sound, what to put - really I did not even know if anyone would accept it.

I don't have a second because - well my posts are..........

Tags for this challenge - as previously Stated if you wish to have a go just do it - don't wait for someone to mention you. I am going to mention new friends @leticiapereira , @enforcer48 , @beautifulbullies , @twodorks, @ravijojla , @anutu , @maquemali , @mimismartypants, @xcountytravelers , @eveningart

The greatest challenge we face on Steemit is getting our posts seen, I have always believed the simplest and best value way of doing this is by commenting on the blog posts of others, the more you engage people and interact with them the greater the chance they will visit your own blog and return the favour. Other then spending all my free time commenting on Steemit posts, I also distribute coffee roasting machines and also espresso coffee machines and roast my own Speciality Coffee Range. being one of the premium coffee suppliers Yorkshire including a wide range of filter coffee sachets

I am not waiting for others to tag me. I really like these types of challenges so my Post will be up in about 2 hours as I am in a Fine hour Schedule.

Hehe.

Thank you very much, and quite right if you like a challenge just do it - there are plenty of creative ways to come up with posts if you look hard enough.

I really enjoyed yours too - bring back the Biryanhi I say!

I'll work on this later.

I'm looking forward to it ;-)

great post, enjoyed reading your insights and achievements. do you know @fulltimegeek is setting up a witness server? should be live early next week I hope.

Thank you very much, I had missed that bit of blockchain busting news - now that is exciting! Now I need to work out who to bump out of my Witness Vote list to make way for #FullTimeWitness

oh, it really is important to be nice, isn't it? Of all the things that I have read in this article, that almost covers everything. You can do a lot of things in life, but if you're nice people will remember that. You are always nice to everybody and people remember that.

I'm not quite sure how you managed to work like you do in both your job and here on the platform, but you seem to be covering everything well. Do you mind sharing your secret, because I can't seem to keep up with anything. I really like this Challenge and I've seen it done in different ways with different questions but I agree that it helps learn a little bit more about everybody. And that's pretty cool.

I know that getting noticed is a problem and I find that especially with my #MarketFriday challenge, for example, people do the most amazing posts that come from all parts of the world, sharing their world with everyone. I have to be honest with you in saying that it is so disappointing to see these posts that people spend literally hours on and running to all parts of their town and Beyond to make a different and enjoyable post, only to be rewarded with $0.10 or maybe even as much as $0.70. How disheartening that is to me. It's a wonder that anybody comes back and does another post and yet, there are so many that do, and yet there are so many that have quit because of it. Not everybody can spend hours on post and get no reward. Okay I will shovel myself off that subject.

I cannot imagine waking up to 5000 steam power. I was excited when I was delegated 500 and then a thousand and felt like I could vote everything that I enjoyed. I think that that is one of the things that I have to learn how to control. I have seen myself go down to under 20% voting power because I cannot stop voting when I see people making such awesome content. In the end, I know that I will be suffering for it, but the reward makes my heart feel good. In short, I love what you are doing and I only wish I had the time and energy to do it like you do. Keep up the awesome work.

Steem on!

Upped and Steemed

Thank your very much, it means a great deal that you would leave such a lovely big comment. I try my best with what little time I have available- but it’s hard to keep up with creating my own posts and reading / commenting on others.

It’s been a while since I did a Market Friday, I should do another soon I really enjoyed it. I know exactly what you mean and I have been through your #MarketFriday posters before - they are always excellent posts and it’s a shame the posters don’t get the upvotes they deserve for the effort. I try to spread my own vote as far as I can, but it can take me all week to just go through all the #SublimeSunday posts because I like to leave a good comment on each one.

I try to keep my Vote Power over 80% and autovote kicks in over 90% covering 275 accounts and #thealliance trail. It’s always a struggle because you really want to reward all those working so hard and getting so little.

Hopefully improvements will come, I’m interested to see what Hive Mind communities will bring.

getting people to your posts is the key to success

So true. I've seen so many amazing posts worth little to nothing. At the same time, some that are just crap raking in the tokens. I also like your nice to be important but more important to he nice. There are some curt and downright rude individuals out here sadly. @katrina-ariel tagged me for this, on my list. Good to see ya on it😎

Thank you very much, it's frustrating to see so much quality content mostly ignored, I try my best to give as much back as I can -but you can only upvote so much and the more you drop your Vote Power the less value you get from your Steem Power investment.

This is such a fun challenge. Love your “it’s important to be nice” quote, and big yes on the people! One of these months I’ll do a sublime Sunday post. 😉 So glad you’re here! 💞

Thank you very much, this was a fun challenge to do I must check out your post.

A great challenge and amazing insights. Yes, I agree, it's the people, that make Steemit so incredibly special.

Meanwhile, I have learned a tiny bit more here and so I am able to say I agree, that commenting and engaging with comments on posts is vital.

There were so many surprises in the past when I commented, I think it is most important to curate and comment.

And thanks for the nomination/mention :) @c0ff33a, it's a pleasure!

Have a great Evening!

Thank you very much, yes there is so much we can do to bring traffic to our own posts - commenting helps a great deal - when you leave a comment on someones post it reminds them about you - they might even think to check out your blog for the latest work.

Also I think it helps to just become memorable - someone people think of often - either because they see you around all the time or you make an impact in some way.

Yes, I think so too @c0ff33a, commenting helps to become memorable, for sure. Writing great posts is one thing to maybe get a glimpse of the person behind. But I think that, at least for me, reading a post of a person, give me not enough insight to see if there are similarities or interests that the post creator and I share.

Yesterday, I had an astonishing experience. I was commenting on a post. We got into an amazing communication back and forth. at the end it turned out, that we share our passion for upcycling, that we share an area in England where we both have lived/live. And we both have a strong connection to Malta.

I love this kind of surprises so much. It is worth to comment, it is so much fun to discover new Steemians, exchange ideas, find out what brings us together.

I noticed you are one of those keeping the good atmosphere here on Steem.

Thank you, I try my best - admittedly that's not overly exciting but every little helps!

You are definitely one of the people who make Steemit enjoyable, Rob. Thanks for the mention and being such a great friend. ❤️ 😊

Those are great questions and they have me thinking...You're just a wonderful man and no wonder why you have so many wonderful supporters!
