The Countdown Is On: Steem Has One YearsteemCreated with Sketch.

This week we are suppose to get an announcement from Facebook about the new stablecoin it is creating, reportedly called the Libre. This is going to be a game changer, if for no other reason than the sheer size of the social media giant.

Before going any further, I believe this will end up being a failure. The truth is that Facebook showed itself to be ill-suited to control people's data, why would anyone think they are up to the task with finances.

We are also seeing the centralization of the market. Quite simply, this is another USD. Some of the biggest companies in the financial world like Visa and PayPal are getting on board. This is nothing more than another attempt to recreate the controlled banking system.

My understanding is that Facebook is going to announce the release of the token a year from now. That gives the rest of the crypto community one year to get ahead of the curve. This might not sound like a lot of time but, in the world of development, this is a lifetime. A lot can be accomplished in that time.

I do not care how they structure it, I do not believe there is any chance that Facebook creates something that is completely decentralized. This company still answers to Wall Street, although that is questionable after the latest attempt to oust Zuckerberg. Nevertheless, a bunch of funds dumping the stock would not make life easy for him.

We are seeing more publicity for Steem. This is odd since it comes in the form of attacks but then, again, that makes sense. The attempts at the "Steemit Killers" show there is something here. Recent developments on this blockchain show how quickly things are moving.

Sometimes our greatest allies can be our enemies. Facebook is no friend of crypto. It is intent on taking surveillance capitalism to an entirely new level. Imagine being banned, not for what you posted or associated with, but because of what you purchased. Spend money on a holistic health solution, BANNED!!!!

Facebook is not about freedom. Zuckerberg does not feel anyone should have any privacy. He basically stated that this week. This company is seeking to dominate the world which is never good for humanity, no matter who is doing it.

Each of us on here is helping to construct a brand new system. Be participating in these early days, we are the ones who are blazing the trail. Our developers are putting together applications that people can use. We are seeing platforms build that are going to be available to any group or community. Our supermind is expanding to levels that a centralized organization cannot compete against.

Think back to where Steem was a year ago. And no, I am not talking about the token price. Consider what was taking place in the middle of 2018. Look at the State of the DApps and see how many of those applications were not even available. Consider the fact that Steemit Inc was still mired in its Ned plan of promise lots, do little.

Today, we are seeing something much different. Mira was completed. We now have an exchange via Steem-Engine. Work is being done on a new community feature called "Tribes". There is a platform for all those displaced content creators from Youtube called 3Speak.

The list keeps growing.

Decentralized can always move quicker than centralized. Hierarchical structures have policies that people have to adhere to. This slows development. Steem uses a different approach. With the open source, supermind structure, not only can anyone put whatever he or she wants on here, people are free to take the ideas of others and build upon them. This can cause massive growth in a short period of time.

I saw some of these possibilities a little under two years ago when I started writing about Steem and the opportunities here. Despite the naysayers, I held firm because I believed what I saw. Yes, there were (and still are) issues. However, when one understands the base level groundswell and the desire of thousands of people to make this place succeed, that is tough to combat.

Many thought (and still think) Steem is going to die. This will NEVER happen. There are 100 some odd Witnesses who will ensure the blockchain is always running. As long as that takes place, people will have the opportunity to develop and create on here.

Facebook will end up being a joke in the world of crypto. That said, it will cause some waves. For that reason, I feel we must take this seriously and work hard to get ahead of it. While they have the size, Steem has the agility.

We have not even completed 6 months in 2019 and we saw a huge jump in development. I believe we will see a multiple of 4 in terms of the second half development. Things are just starting to get going.

This is going to put Steem in a very powerful position going into 2020. I do not know what the token price will look like but the system will be on firm ground.

While other blockchains are full of hype and promise, Steem is actually delivering. This is a big difference from what else is out there.

It is best to remember that.

Given Facebook’s illegal banning of Crypto Industry Ads, we may be able to get an injunction blocking the launch of Libra Coin as part of the Class Action against them. Www.jpbliberty.com. You can signup by sending an encrypted memo to @jpbliberty saying “Join Crypto Class Action” & providing a contact detail.

I really appreciate your views as they are always very intelligent and an easy read. Your perspective on the libre Facebook is very realistic and I thank you for sharing your thoughts and I hope it opens a lot of peoples eyes.

I think you underestimate project Libra and Global Coin. Crypto is designed to target communities, and Facebook has one of biggest communities on the planet. It doesn't matter if the currency they make is good or valid. It will be used more than any other crypto on the planet.

That being said, it's a good thing for us. Users of project Libra will eventually get burned and be looking for solutions elsewhere.

It is also very important that Steemians take note of @jpbliberty 's class action case against Facebook and Google. If you held any crypto or had any interest in a crypto business a year ago, you can join the class. You can also talk to @apshamilton who is leading the legal work on this.

By adopting their own internal crypto currency only a year after declaring the entire crypto industry to be a scam and banning us all from the worlds largest advertising market was almost certainly a crime (in Australia at least and perhaps elsewhere).

You can also (if you want an extra stake in the case) choose to contribute to the legal expenses and this is particularly easy for Steemians because in return you will receive the SUFB token on Steem-engine.

All the details can be found in this recent post from JPBLiberty.

That's a great idea. Despite Libra being beneficial to the crypto space as such a class action suit will generate publicity that will draw attention to the space.

Libra will not have any of the aspects of a crypto currency that matter. It will be entirely centrally held by Facebook. I'm not even sure why they feel the need to introduce a crypto currency except for buzzword compliance. They could centrally manage their own currency without using a blockchain.

Libra will not have any of the aspects of a crypto currency that matter.

I'm not completely sure about that.

It will be entirely centrally held by Facebook. I'm not even sure why they feel the need to introduce a crypto currency except for buzzword compliance.

If that is the case, it means that Facebook thinks buzzworld compliance is a good thing in this case. What that means is that Libra will be a good thing for the crypto sector as it will legitimize it in the eyes of the masses.

They could centrally manage their own currency without using a blockchain.

Yes, if it really is centralized. But then again STEEM is centralized, too. Steemit Inc still owns over 50% of the stake. In theory, our witnesses are their puppets.

Facebook's coin will not be a real crypto but a centralized USD-pegged stablecoin. I think it will be a success. Facebook has a marketplace. With the USD-pegged Libra, you can pay any Facebook user in the whole world for any product you buy from them. I think it's a fantastic thing that this is branded as a crypto because that will legitimize the real crypto sector in a big way because most consumers won't know the difference.

Upvoted and resteemed, and more.

2020 will be a financial era changing year. And the gigant of previous financial system will try to dominate the new financial period, i mean the crypto-finance.

And i personally do not believe that the gigant like facebook could not make a decentralized environment for it user and for its currency.

Many of us here on blockchain-based platform and currencies for the belief of being anonimous for somehow.

I want to add one last point, steemit and steem currency has a very unique feature, and it is zero transaction fee on the steemit platform.

Old capitalist gigants want to have tax on our breath but steem/steemit lets us breath.

If we can just fix the on boarding problems and the retention problem... I certainly don't have the answers, but I hope it gets addressed quickly.

That said, I think that we SHOULD be charging to access this blockchain. "Democracy" only works when there is a stake involved and we are seeing the value of that in crypto now. The problem with Steem as I see it, is that people get on here and don't see a reason to stay because they don't want to go through the grind. I think they feel too powerless at first and don't understand the system.

Nothing will ever be perfect, but when people must decide on actions when their own stake is at risk, better decisions seem to be made.

I agree with you completely @diggndeeper.com. The perspective changes when people have a little money on the line. Their stake is then more personal as opposed to a few tokens that are earned. When people put up money, they also tend to learn what is going on as opposed to just scanning the headline and saying "this place sucks".

With the price of STEEM still under 50 cents, it is a great time for those who are optimistic about what is taking place to add to their stake. I can assure you there are some Orcas and Dolphins who are taking advantage. How many of the Minnows and Planktons are too?

That is the big question.

That really is the big question.

I'm going to be completely non PC and say that there may be a reason some will never be Dolphins or Orcas. This is an issue for this platform just like in all other aspects of economy.

A rising tide floats all boats, or whatever. Maybe we can at least try to change the culture on here.

Imagine the headline

F-c-book forks FED coin.

decentralization? Not a chance in hell.

Further, many doomsayers are talking about dollar collapse in 2020.
Sooooo, just as f-c-book pegs their coin to the dollar, the dollar disappears.

f-c-book coin is soooo stable. It was worth nothing, and its still worth nothing.

USD is on a very wobbly state right now

Hard to say but with the recent success of following through on what they say, I will say that Steemit Inc has make it a priority so hopefully we will see it pan out.

I am still waiting for someone to develop an app where we can earn tokens for playing games like Castle Story and other Team Lava cutesy type games.

I would develop it myself but the learning curve is steeeep. Maybe I’ll get one of kids to help me. (Lol)
