Inside looking out

in #steem4 years ago (edited)

Spending time talking to other Steemians yesterday face-to-face gives a lot to reflect upon as while we all have our different experiences in life, we are all bound by the same underlying foundation that brought us together. As we spoke about various things and even though we each have our different perspectives and disagreements, one thing we were unanimous on is that the world is changing.

Steem is an ecosystem and while I was taking the photos of this wasp that sat on the window, I wondered if it considered itself inside, or out. For this wasp where it was flying free within its environment and for me who was within my home, we might both consider our position natural. For the wasp to come into my home, it would be leaving and going out from its own.

At the moment, we look at Steem as a platform outside of the economy and outside of real life, yet we are within it - what side of the glass are we actually on? I find it interesting to think that while we as a small community see ourselves from separating from the rest of the world, what I think is that we are slowly shaping a new type of economy that is much more inclusive than the one we have now. What this means is that more and more, people will be looking to get into our home looking to make it theirs, and they will be welcomed.

I see that from an economic standpoint, the last hardfork created a layer that incentivized investment into stabilization, the next is gong to be one that attracts the masses to the windows and raise the question in them whether they want to depart what they have known and choose to live in another type of environment - one where they are able to build their own experience and have personal controls that are missing in the engineered world they currently inhabit.

As these questions are increasingly raised, they shine lights onto the dark corners of the world that most have never seen and what they will find there is what they have always suspected, the control of the many in the hands of the very few. What they will also discover that the control they hold is tenuous and entirely based upon us acting in accordance with their codes. Their power is an illusion because it is reliant on us t feed it through our demand.

Demand differently and the supply will change and that includes the power supply that is used to manipulate the game into the hands of the few. What happens when the queen loses all her drones to a network of new hives that allow freedom of choice without imaginary barriers and where all who participate control where and how they participate?

We have a hivemind in the code, but that code doesn't require us to act as one and instead encourages us to question each other, to build relationships, to collaborate and create personal experiences that combine with that of others to build something entirely new, something that hasn't been possible before.

Blockchain technology gives access to possibilities that were impossible to perform prior and, will increasingly improve through development to add more layers of change on top. It isn't about getting rich, although for many participants now that is a potential byproduct of the process. Instead, it is about reimagining the way we organize ourselves, our resources and our world of imagination and creation to see if the questions that have been thus far unassailable, do indeed have a solution, or at least a step of evolution toward one.

At the moment it is very hard to know if what we are doing is always going to be outside, or will one day become the inside of the economy that we all know. It is interesting because while we were all born into this world without choice of the world into which we were born into, what we might be doing now is creating a different world, a better world through an opt-in process.

Something we should all remember here is, all of us chose to be here and it is also our choice how we act within this environment. This is quite different to the world into which we were delivered as an innocent infant as here, we bring in what we already know and have the chance to use it to play a different game.

Thank you for posting from the https://steemleo.com interface 🦁

Instead of the new user wasp looking in at the blockchain allegory, my vision is of new users digging wells into the water table of the blockchain through countless dApps of which Condenser is just one and often times not realising that the well of their new user neighbor is even on the same water table so long as water is coming out their spout.

Oh, that is a great way to look at it. I find that building mental visuals for concepts helps me understand and develop them. I figure many are similar to me in this regard, so creating stories helps them also find ways to explain Steem and blockchain to others.

Pretty awesome shots you shared

Thanks, I am a lazy nature photographer and let nature come to me :D
