View this post on Hive: Talking with people about Steem during a blockchain meet-up

Dear reader - Steem has been renamed to Hive since May 2020. My content therefore has moved with me to Hive, and I hope to see you there: peakd.com/@soyrosa.

Sort:

Yes, these typical crypto events are often everyone shilling their own project.SO unlike SteemFest which was a real community.

Yes, SteemFest was honestly the most epic meeting of people I've ever been part of. I am planning on sending them the info about the law suit by the way, many have been in crypto for a long time already - do you have a status update? :D

Thanks @soyrosa. We’re still in the stage of collecting signups but getting closer to taking first legal steps.

Love this! Fantastic observations and thoughts for next time. Good on you for attending and speaking for Steem! I think @oracle-d might have some talking points to share that might help on the next one, but I’m sure you did a great job. I think these things get easier with practice anyway. Thank you for going and sharing your experience! Hopefully it helps others think of ways to get the word out about Steem!

Yes - Next meet-up I’ll involve @oracle-d for sure! First wanted to ‘test the waters’ and see the audience.

Thanks for your supportive comment and resteem! \o/

hey @soyrosa, so you have never visited a blockchain event ever? those are very good for networking and learning about other projects. I love where I live but unfortunately, when it comes to crypto enthusiasts, there is almost none here.

40 to 50 people is a lot, I am sure you had fun meeting them. I keep saying that the future of adoption is on the millennials, all that young generations emerging that dont want to deal with banks, that's where the future is.

You did good talking about Steem, and I am sure you will do better next time. I dont know if you know about Partiko App, this helps me a lot when I want to explain about steemit platform using my android for example.

Regarding @appics app, I like to use it a lot when explaining about apps being build on top of STEEM. I think this is a nice project that will definitely build the bridge for people that has no clue of Blockchain. I wouldn't say is simple an app, this app is an important Instagram competitor, it will take time of course but for sure users will prefer to use something over Instagram, where your content is yours and you get rewarded for it. Besides this, I dont know if you know that Appics has an important plan for an integrated shop where you can purchase goods / services using their SMT generated from your content creation.

@evecab and I will start organizing little meetups but more focus con coaching people little by little in the Social Media disruption aspect... and you are right! a tshirt with the Steem logo is important, I already made one for each, you will see it later =)

Take care girly girl, a huge hug and a kiss (in the cheeck) for you from Panama!

Nicely done, sister!

There are actually several apps that allow you to onboard people immediately, unfortunately none of them are Steemit. Cost is 3.00 Steem per account. SteemWorld is set up so you can claim the account but not open it until you are ready (IE give it away). Starting delegation is up to you, by the way. Oh yeah. The 3 Steem is burned so it's not just a money grab, but a share of the cost of doing business.

I'm currently planning to go to Austin, TX in April for a crypto conference. Should be interesting.

Thanks a lot @bigtom13! Yes, I know about the '3 STEEM' option, but newbies don't have the 3 STEEM yet, so for them it's a problem. I can make them accounts of course, but they often don't know who to ask for it :-) So the different 'apps' now offering free/quick Steem accounts is a real life changer - but that too must be communicated well enough for them to know where to sign up.

I'm curious what you'll learn from the Austin conference! Good you're going!

Well maybe you planted a seed. Who knows.

In marketing they say, people have to hear about something 4 times before they will take action. It is arbitrary and non-measurable but it's a guide.

Maybe you crossed off one of the four!

Ah, I like that marketing wisdom! I feel better now, I might have been the one telling them about Steem for the second or third time... And I'll probably meet them again in a month, which is when I'm wearing my Steem shirt ;-) Thanks @whatsup!

Hi @soyrosa, nice report and I like hearing about your experience at a blockchain event that is not steem, it takes a certain courage to attend something like this! I've thought of it but haven't actually taken the step.

SMTs promise to be a game-changer and I think everyone is ready for them. There are so many apps but I'm not very savvy about how to use them and even what they are and like for you, I don't know of one that stands out as one that is easy to describe and to entice people to Steem with. @ericvancewalton just posted on this topic and proposed an idea to have all apps operate from the same interface to make them more user-friendly and this appeals to me. in case you're interested: https://steemit.com/story/@ericvancewalton/solving-the-steemit-puzzle

Hey @natureofbeing, thanks, and yes, it's a bit scare but definitely worth attending one of those meet-ups! You'll get wiser and they get some knowledge from you too - I always find you know more than you think beforehand.

I'm going to read on Eric's proposal, thanks for sharing the link! :-)

It takes long to get your account
Shitposts get better rewards than my well-written content (I prefer Medium and in the end didn't even bother copy my Medium content onto my Steem profile)

So some people are actually on Steemit already to say this? If they no that you can get by with shit post, they know Steemit pretty well.

Yes. At least one wrote on Steemit for a while but quit out of frustration of shitposts getting higher rewards than post that were written with effort.

Too bad, he must have wondered why you're still hanging around

How do we cateegorize a "shitpost", though? Different people prefer differeet content.

Posted using Partiko Android

I can give you plenty examples of shit post and its not down to people's preference of content. One recent one, the definition of video is to watch something move, hence you have dtube. I do videos of places i go, edit them, add music and effect. Not everyone might like the content but that's not shit. Then you have videos where nothing moves. You could have put a photo in the video and it would make no difference coz I'd still be watching paint dry on the wall. That's what I call shitpost.

Thanks for that rreeinder. What softtware do you use to accomplish that?

Posted using Partiko Android

And just because my posts often don't include images, does that make them shit?

Posted using Partiko Android

Lack of images doen't make a shit post, some people write beautifully and articulate better in words. It's more down to content and effort to determine what's shit or not.

I think I might actually create a whole new series on my opinions on this topic not that I think about it. We'll see how many people read. LOL

Posted using Partiko Android

Wow, that's a real shitpost indeed :D

Absolutely true. Sometimes 1 image is not a shitpost, sometimes 1 sentence without an image is not a shitpost. Often a shitpost is where you know people are trying to make 'money quick' without putting effort in their post.

Yes, I had to explain, but they were willing to listen. Many just don't look beyond steemit.com. I was able to explain how Steem will work with SMT's and I believe many were surprised this is where Steem is working towards :-)

Wait. You weren't wearing your Steem shirt?

I know. I suck :-(

Well you promote steemit in that meet-up and thaks for that

Thank you so much for participating the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
