RE: The Number One Fix to Improve Steem's Chances for Mainstream Adoption

in #steem7 years ago

The initial idea to give creative content the lifespan of a fruit fly was the one thing that bothered me from the beginning of my time on steemit. Why kill the earning power of content after a week?

The second thing is the limited nature of our blog compared to let's say a Wordpress blog with categories, various pages, etc.

Imagine a case where content could always be upvoted, and we had Wordpress-like sites. Then for example, someone might develop a blog-site for gardening, yoga, stamp collecting, guitar instruction, whatever -- and with time visitors themselves would join steemit to be able to comment and upvote, or create themselves. People would be focusing on quality and thinking longer term.

If steemit was mass adopted, those websites could be nice streams of income for the hard working people behind them.

Personally, it often feels like we are drops in a vast ocean. We need mass adoption and tens of thousands of organic steem-based communities, and I personally think the two things I mentioned above would have helped us achieve that (long term.)

Of course I realize this is a Don Quixote idea that will never happen, but that's how I see it.

The 7 day limit is a tech limitation, more than a decision. Perhaps in the future there may be ways to make a post “evergreen” but I do accept and understand it.
To your other point, I say... add Steem to your blog! Too many people forget or don’t realize that there is so much more to Steem than just Steemit. I’ve gotta put a lot more work into my sites, but I’ve been so psyched playing around with https://finallycomments.com/
@sambillingham is building an amazing project, there’ll probably be a WordPress plugin soon. I just currently manually embed the code in the footer of my WordPress posts that mirror my Steemit content.
Creators fan bases never even have to come to Steemit to gain the benefits of Steem.

Thanks Bryan! I haven't got a clue what is going on technically ;-) As for putting it on a blog, that's kind of a chicken & egg situation. After mass adoption of steem it would absolutely be a must do idea.

In any case, respect for what you are doing, that's great!
