I'm no longer self voting and slashing my autovoter! Time to curate new users!

in #steem7 years ago

I recently seen a similar post HERE and was feeling inspired, my voting power has been balancing out with just all my friends around here on my autovoter. I hope they are going to continue to be my friends since they all just got there votes halved (sorry guys). Not that it was much anyways. I also seen another post in that same time with some fancy pie charts showing people that were good curators and casting there votes evenly to a wide audience and began to wonder what my own pie chart would look like. Probably some sort of 16 slice pizza. I never had any extra power to vote for other users.

I was further inspired by @SirKnights post HERE when he encouraged everyone to leave more comments. I do generally comment but it is often on the same group of friends.

I was also self-voting all my posts. I don't think it was a bad thing and I'm not ashamed of it, but it was limited my chance to give back. I'm no whale by any means and I only have around 1000SP. So even at 100% I'm only casting a $0.09 Vote.

I have also delegated half of my total SP (1000SP) to projects that I feel give back to the community.
Here is my list;
@silvergoldbotty 200.77
@msp-creativebot 200.77
@msp-canada 200.05
@stsl 100.27
@shadow3scalpel 100.08
@centerlink 100.02
@minnowsupport 100.00

I really believe that steemit is all about community and the more we can support the growth of the community and help new members to stay on the platform and continue to grow and engage. The better it will be for everyone long term.

That is why I'm committing to cast my votes for new members. I plan to seek out new members posting good content and leaving 50-100% votes for them and of course leave engaging comments.

I also hope to start casting votes for people that leave comments for me. I do really appreciate that engagement and want to be able to show my appreciation to those that stop by my blog and read it and leave an insightful comment.

Here's hoping this will also inspire others and feel free to slash me from your autovoter and give it to newer minnows

Perhaps I am going to delegate to @silvergoldbotty myself. I usually do not like bots that much (scary AI ala Musk thinking), but when it is use to strengthen a community, steemsilvergold, it is make much sense. I hope see would be a good girl...

Yeah, I do like the idea of community bots like that, i'm still suspicious of the bidbots though.

That is really good you are using your personal high Steem Power to help out quality content creators.I believe that is how it was intended to be used like!

Not sure it's high power, but it's something anyways!

Sounds great @phelimint. I hope someday I'll be able to give back as well.

Start small and now and make it a habbit.

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks to some generous followers, I have my first $5.00 posts x2 this week 😁 I know, I know...but for me it's been a goal. I really enjoy the #steemsilvergold community and think it's great how quickly it has grown.

$5 is sweet man, I'm happy if mine sneak over that as well!

I didn't realize that the SP had anything to do with the weight of your vote.
Is there a chart or something somewhere that gives us an idea of how much our voting weight is worth?

Thank you so much. That is very helpful. Since I have you here. I saw a page once that had the rank we are in Steemit. I was at #32442 at the time. I forgot to bookmark the page. Do you happen to know what I'm talking about?

Steemwhales.com :)

Thank you again. That's it.

If you saw me, you'd assume I'm just coasting by on my dashing good looks; but I'm actually quite useful too.

If you say so. I know you have been useful to me today and I sure appreciate it.

It's a great place, mate.
Enjoy :)

Beep! Beep! This humvee will be patrolling by and assisting new veterans, retirees, and military members here on Steem. @shadow3scalpel will help by upvoting posts from a list of members maintained by @chairborne and responding to any questions replied to this comment.

Bloody Good Job, Mate! Setting a great example.

Since I've been on Steemit, I only use 2 auto votes and that's for Communties I'm involved in. As for individuals I follow or others I always use manual voting.

So far, I've managed to remain firm to one principle - " If a post is interesting enough to read then it deserves some form of comment and an upvote".
I do all of my votes on posts and comments manually at 100% and when my voting power gets a bit low I just stop for a while. At this point in time, my 100% is only worth 0.05 anyway, so I think it's a bit of an insult to reduce it?

I am guilty of self upvoting and buying bot votes from time to time, so maybe I have to have a think about that?

I'm going to give this some thought. I like what you are doing. I read this shortly after using voting bots and upvoting my last few posts 😂

P.s. Fitness post coming Tuesday. Looks like I'll have the 50 SBD then as well. Do I just send those to you after I write my first post about it?

I'll still likely use the occasional vote bot, but just want to use my 'vote' for others.
As for the contest entry, I'll still waiting for confirmation so just hold tight for now.

I appreciate your willingness to help newer members of the community. We all need to make a decision about how we use our votes to benefit others.

There may be times to self-vote but we often loss out when we only think about ourselves.

I think your right about that.

Autovoting tends to decrease engagement significantly. I autovote a bit, but try to keep it under half of my daily VP so I have to spend time upvoting and engaging. I only auto upvote so I don't miss out on voting members of my community I know are posting good content. The downside is they probably deserve a higher vote, and some engagement in the comments, which I don't always get to.

yeah, I agree I do wish I could support everyone more, I'll have to just keep growing!

I'm new enough that I still don't understand how to leave a certain percentage of a vote (but my vote is also not worth much of anything... I think?) so I'm not sure it matters. I didn't quite realize what a learning curve there would be for my non-techie brain, but I really appreciate posts like these that make way more sense to me than the uber technical posts. Thanks for sharing and enlightening my wee brain on yet another aspect of this process!

It is possible via other front ends, just not on steemit unless you get up to 500 SP (I think)
But at 500SP a vote is only worth ~0.01 anyhow AFAIK

Around 550 SP you automatically get a little slider bar.

Ahhhh... that's a long ways off, I'm sure, but than you for solving that mystery!

I hear from a friend recently he got his a 475, so maybe It'll be a bit sooner!

Thanks! I'm still at 63 so who knows how long that will take. I've only been writing for two weeks, though, so it won't be years or anything. Thanks for the info. I think I might be almost be learning the very basics of speaking 'Steem' at this point :)
