Steem Meetups are popping up everywhere.
A Proposal to use the DAO to buy and burn STEEM is being discussed.

1. Steem Meetups Everywhere
Steem Meetups are popping up everywhere.
There have already been successful meetups this year in Ciudad Bolívar in Venezuela, in Uyo in Nigeria, and in Seoul in South Korea.
Now there are four more meetups planned for the coming months.
Next up will be a Meetup in Maracaibo in Venezuela on 10 August.
The third weekend of September will see a meetup in in Uyo in Nigeria on Saturday 14 September, and another in North Aceh in Indonesia the following day on Sunday 15 September.
Then over the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October 2024 there will be Summer SteemFest Korea 2024 in Chungcheongnam-do.
2. Using the DAO to burn STEEM...
The idea is currently being discussed to create a proposal to use SBDs from the DAO to buy and burn STEEM.
There are three aspects to the idea...
SBDs should be a stable coin equating to one US dollar. SBDs have been trading much higher than $1 for some time. The aim of the proposal would be to push SBDs down towards becoming a dollar pegged stable coin again.
As the SBD value goes down, the buying and burning of STEEM should increase the value of STEEM. This will be like burnsteem25 but on a much bigger scale.
Reducing the large amount of SBDs currently on the DAO will make it less of a target for an unwanted 'attack' of any kind as discussed by @remlaps recently.
This idea of a proposal to the DAO is still in the early stages of discussion among witnesses and community leaders, and thoughts and contributions are invited from the whole community. @jondoe has made a post about the idea to kickstart the discussion...
When a full Proposal to the DAO is produced it will require the support of the community to vote it above the Return Proposal and become actively funded as has happened with the current development proposal from @the-gorilla.

3. Nigeria Meetup : 14 September
Steem Rep @goodybest is organising a Meetup for local Steemians in Uyo in Nigeria on Saturday 14 September.
The event starts at 2.00pm at Oba's Playground by Ibiaku U-turn Airport Road, opposite Pan African Comprehensive Secondary School in Uyo.
There will be talks on Steem topics, a Q & A session, contests and dancing...
4. Indonesia Meetup : 15 September
The new Steem Coffee shop launched recently by @sofian88 will be the venue for a Steem Meetup in Aceh, Indonesia on Sunday 15 September.
The event is being organised by @el-nailul, @heriadi, @irawandedy, and @sofian88.
Planned for the meetup are a number of talks on Steem related topics, and also a talent show.
The meetup will also be live on Instagram for anyone who wants to join in from beyond Aceh...
5. Venezuela Meetup : 10 August
Another Steem Meetup is being planned in Venezuela.
The event is taking place in Venezuela's second largest city, Maracaibo, in the state of Zulia on Saturday 10 August 2024.
It is hoped that as many Steemians as possible from the states of Zulia, Lara and Falcón will be able to attend.
The meetup is being organised by @anailuj1992, @adeljose and @fjjrg from Zulia state, @alejos7ven and @vivigibelis from Lara state, and @yancar for the state of Falcón....
6. Summer SteemFest Korea 2024
The Steem community in South Korea are organising a second major meetup for the year.
Summer SteemFest Korea 2024 will take place over the weekend of Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October 2024.
The event is being held at Cheongpodae Sunset Pension, at Cheongpodae Beach in Nam-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.
The theme of the SteemFest is 'Family and Travel'.
Activities will include Clam digging, a Juggling Workshop, a Sand Art contest, a diving competition, a treasure hunt, and a talent show...
7. Developer Updates
Witness developer @etainclub continues his work on building inGAN - an AI-free community where only humans can join...
SteemPro has been using Google Firestore for managing post views and announcements.
To improve performance developer @faisalamin has now migrated the Firestore to a self-hosted MySQL database...
8. Steem Lighting Africa
Solar specialist @ubongudofot is making good progress with the fundraising for his next project to install a solar PV system to provide electricity for a school in Uyo, Nigeria.
Around 40% of the required budget has now been raised...
9. Contests on Steem
@disconnect continues to publish his comprehensive daily list of current contests on Steem.
There are 112 contests in the latest list with over 800 STEEM in prizes...
