500 Celebrities that Should Join Steemit and Blog (2 of 2)

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

At the request of @ned, in his It's Time for a Steem Bounty System! https://steemit.com/bounties/@ned/it-s-time-for-a-steem-bounty-system post, here is a list of ~500 celebrities and influencers (2 of 2) we should encourage to join Steemit.

Please read 500 Celebrities that Should Join Steemit and Blog (1 of 2) https://steemit.com/steem/@mrosenquist/500-celebrities-that-should-join-steemit-and-blog-1-to-2

Looking at our small slice of the world, Steemit could use a few other celebrities and influencers to bring in others, to both create and consume content. The goal in phase 1 is to come up with about 500 names of people who might be interested and would be valuable to the Steemit community. Per @ned’s requirements: Celebrities should be reasonably able to manage a Steem blog; should have significant following on other social media; should appear to be a good cultural fit for Steem.

Criteria

I took into consideration a number of different criteria, including their history in investing and supporting new technology, if they are tech savvy, the number of followers and the amount of content they currently generate on social platforms.

Challenges

This list does not speak to the challenges or perceived impossibility of these people participating. We don’t know if they may be intrigued with the cryptocurrency aspect, see it as a new venue to reach a greater and more diverse audience, if they will value the freedom of what can be posted, or if this is another channel to amplify their reputation and augment other social venues they participate in. On the other hand, they may see it as a distraction, a conflict with established social venues, or too high of an overhead to get established. There are many challenges, but this is a first step. A list of potential additions to bring more visibility and expand our social community.

Relevance

At first pass, I selected individuals who possessed a certain desire to communicate across social media, can contribute to cryptocurrency discussions and influence, or have the desire to maintain large numbers of public followers.

The top areas I looked into were the following:
• Cryptocurrency Influencers
• Entertainers
• Sports Professionals
• Politicians
• Authors & Bloggers
• Social media stars (snapchat, twitter, Instagram, facebook, pinterest, youtube, etc.)

List of Celebrities and Influencers

Here is the first list (1 of 2 ), open to prioritization, as well as additions. I did add some columns with my notes, figuring the community might find it valuable. The notes are not complete.

Next Steps

If we can agree to a decent list of 500, the Dev's will publish assigned bounties (perhaps we should call them rewards) for those who can get the celebrities to join and participate. At first glance it may feel impossibly lofty. But if might not be as far fetched as it appears. If you subscribe to the 6 degrees of separation theories, chances are the current Steemit community is connected to most in some way, therefore we may have influence.

500 Celebrities that Should Join Steemit and Blog (1 of 2) https://steemit.com/steem/@mrosenquist/500-celebrities-that-should-join-steemit-and-blog-1-to-2
Please put contribute your thoughts (note, I had to split this into 2 posts as I was getting a table error).

Sort:

I've been thinking about something similar ... contact known authors directly, they will actually make money and they bring their own following

as in ... I wouldn't mind setting it up ...

I think that is what @dan has in mind. Leveraging the Steemit community and giving them proper incentives. Hope we hear back from @dan soon. Get this ball rolling.

Do you have Loic LeMeur in the list ?

No, I do not. Should he be on it? (can you give me some data for me to add to the list?)

Organizer of LeWeb and founder of many startups.
He now works on something called leade.rs that could echo well with Steemit.

Okay. I have added him to my list, #532 (not prioritized)

Good.
Imho, I think you should expand the list to other types of people than:
• Cryptocurrency Influencers
• Entertainers
• Sports Professionals
• Politicians
• Authors & Bloggers
• Social media stars (snapchat, twitter, Instagram, facebook, pinterest, youtube, etc.)

I think that you should leave room in your 500list to **Musicians, Artists (makers), entrepreneurs. ** (Apparently you already are at 500+ , there is no more room already !?)

Because, besides the sports pros, the list aforementioned does not really differ from what we already see in steemit.

Imho, Steemit is great to promote NEW people, new artists, new musicians, new writers.

If we bring here the already known people "en masse" we will just be one more social media in the ocean, rewarding the already successful.

The promess of steemit as a new space, open to all will be flawed.

Just my 50cents.

@sebastien I like your recommendation to broaden the list.

I have an 'entertainers' category which encludes musicians, actors, models, etc. It was just a general description of anyone who performs to the public and can cover a wide range of people.

The list is over 500, but I don't think it should be limited. If we have others we think are of value, let's get them on the list to the Dev's.

One of the benefits of bringing in a well established social personality is that they bring lots of followers. This will expose them to many content creators of Steemit. Secondly, these personalities already are adept at keeping a community updated with new content. This is also important to Steemit. Adding these are by no means the comprehensive list of people which will make steemit better. The cobbler from a village in Italy is welcome and would add value here. This is just a start, to boost the number of contributors and consumers, necessary to hit the tipping point for social-media survival. -my 2 cents worth anyways.

Feel free to post other names with details, on who you think should be approached in the short term, for the rapid growth of Steemit.

Answer to the post below:
Great. I will think about names.
I agree onthe fact that the site needs well established names. For the hype and promotion and to reach a network effect.
Btw, I am based in Sunnyvale. Happy to discuss around a coffee on day. Lmk.

Great work!
Bounty coming up

Thank you sir! Looking forward to your scrubbed list with bounties on them. I think you have a few Steemians interested in influencing people on the list, to consider joining our little community.

Okay, let's try a bidding system?

Everyone can bid how much Steem or SBD they want for recruiting a user. Lowest bids get the opportunity. We lock down the spreadsheet after one week and then run the contest for a month, Steemians try to get those users to the platform. There can be a maximum of 25 or 50 targets per player.

I'd be happy to give you a 300 SBD bounty for verifying uniqueness of all users who apply to participate.

Thoughts?

@ned you are always surprising me with your out-of-the-box thinking. Bidding for Bounties!!!
(I am so going to steal that idea for a work paper I am writing on the software security bug-bounty evolution)

So, let me get this right. We want the Steemit community to proactively bid on Celebrities they think they can get to join? We lock in the bids after a period of time (cyclical) and let the top bidder have a chance. After time is up, it opens again for another to bid and try.

I like the idea but have some concerns:

  1. Normally bidding activities go upwards. But in this case it would go to the lowest bidder? Not sure if it will have the same enthusiasm
  2. Quality, it would be easy for anyone to just bid one SD lower, even if they don't have a chance to actually get the Celeb to join
  3. Verification. How do we verify if the Celeb joined because of that person, versus another or just by chance? This combines with #2. A smart bidder would just outbid the top 30 in hopes one of them joins for some other reason. Do we have a referral system which can attest to who brought someone in?
  4. Administration. The bidding, which must be fair, might take some infrastructure to pull off. (I am not a software infrastructure kind of guy, so we would need to get someone tech savvy to make that happen). It would take continual management as well, as timers will cycle out and the process must begin again.

Given the complexities above, it may be simpler if you just bucket the 500 into groups for rewards.

  • Tier 1: Top 50 'most wanted' $XXXX SD
  • Tier 2: Next 100 'elites' $XXX SD
  • Tier 3: Last 350 'celebs' $XX SD

For any given month, if you or the other Dev's want to specify a 'bonus' for a particular celeb(s), then that can add to the overall freshness and marketing, while giving you the flexibility to direct the community to preferred potential contributors.

We then make a requirement for the Celeb to mention the Steemit user who brought them into the community by name in their introduceyourself post (in addition to the normal user verification steps). We then publish updates each week for the bounties, giving recognition/fame to the members who expanded our community.

Excellent work !
