Harpoon Search is now Steem Search!! Updates, issues and a rebranding

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone,

Development has been continuing on Harpoon Search and the big news is that the tool is being rebranded to the easy to remember "Steem Search". Massive thanks to @carlgnash for ever so kindly donating the www.steemsearch.com domain to this project. That dude deserves your upvotes and many many Xmas presents and suchlike.

Steemsearch is now available on both

http://www.steemsearch.com
and
http://www.steemsearch.net

Also, the user @steemsearch will soon be picking up on posting updates as opposed to my personal account so please drop that user a follow if you are interested in getting updates.

Before I go through the new features from the last few days I just want to bring to your attention the current issue with recent results not returning. Unfortunately, @arcange is having some problems with the amount of data coming into the SteemSQL database and it's struggling to get synced up. Please pop over to see his posts and help him out with funding his amazing tool. I know he is working hard to get the issues resolved and is planning a rebuild of his service in the near future.

For the time being, I am going to concentrate on trying to get results back directly from the blockchain. I'll probably make this the default when SteemSQL is behind the blockchain by more than 5 minutes which is what I feel is a good timescale to enable efficient curation and a good backup value. However, doing this kind of searching on the blockchain directly is no-where near as efficient as using the DB so it's likely that results are going to take longer to return. Not only that, it's going to take me a while to develop - and Xmas is here so I'm likely to be busy enjoying myself!!

You can always see the amount of time behind the blockchain that the database is under the search form on Steem Search. Its currently showing 160 minutes but this isn't quite right as there is a single post in the database at that time; the following post is a good 11 hours behind unfortunately :(.

Ok, on to the new features......

  • Results now show the SP of the user plus delegated and received SP values.
  • You can search on max and min SP of a user. (this doesn't include delegated or received SP)
  • The amount of images in the post is now shown in the search results
  • Image count is now searchable with a min and max value.
  • You can opt to exclude results from authors that are in the SteemCleaners mackbot blacklist by checking the text box
  • Slight changes to layout such as removing category (the first tag shows you this) and moving the created timestamp to the row with the stats on it. This reduces the height of each row by 20%.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support on this and hopefully the borg entity that is myself and @carlgnash can produce the ultimate in curation tools for you all.

Cheers, and Happy Xmas

Mark

Looks like SteemSQL is finally up to date :)

To make it absolutely clear where all the credit should go, this is Mark's baby and I have so far only contributed some ideas as far as feature suggestions and (perhaps not insignificantly) as noted did donate the steemsearch.com domain. I bought this domain a month or two back when I was planning on setting up a similar web front end for the SQL based curation queries I use while curating - but I recognized that Mark had already taken his tool past where I had even hoped to get mine so it didn't make sense to me to continue to pursue my own project. In a pretty staggering coincidence, I approached Mark and asked him if he had any plans to park his tool at a domain and mentioned that I owned steemsearch.com... he replied, "Guess who owns @steemsearch?"

LOL

Sometimes the stars align. I have been very happy to throw my support behind Mark and the search tool formerly known as Harpoon, and hopefully soon to be known as the biggest whale in the Steem search pond.

steemsearch

It is simple and says what it does on the tin. I am going to promote the crap out of this tool because it works. This is already the most efficient tool for curation there is out there and once keyword search within the post body is enabled this is going to be, hands down, the best way to browse the blockchain for any user who just wants to find good posts that interest them (whether a curator or not).

@markangeltrueman you rock!

Cheers for the support Carl, it means a lot to know that people are getting behind this.

And yes, SteemSQL is back up to date - @arcange found an issue with the node and pointed it at a different node and it caught up pretty quickly. Ive been doing a bit of curation with it this evening ;)

Thanks for sharing, @Steemsearch is much easier to remember. Awesome @carlgnash donated the domain. Like the added feature of showing the SP. Merry Christmas and the Happy New Year

appreciate the comment, thanks.

Sorry folks, that last deployment failed, just updating again now.
