Steem - Even if Steem isn't technically ready, the free advertising doesn't hurtsteemCreated with Sketch.

The YouTube Crypto Purge gave Steem some much appreciated free advertising

Yes some of the advertising wasn't 100% accurate, as in that we have a legitimate decentralized, censorship-free alternative to YouTube.

We don't technically have that yet, though we are close with both 3speak and Dtube.

Either way, winning polls like this one never hurts:

Yes, technically you can't upload videos to steemit.com and have them stored on the steem blockchain, so that part isn't technically accurate, but...

Steemit and Steem still offer a decentralized alternative to traditional social media that exists currently.

Which is more or less the point.

Yes, those YouTubers that were looking solely for a decentralized, censorship resistant video content platform to replace YouTube wouldn't find exactly that on steem, though 3Speak comes close.

Instead they will find an entire social media experience.

One that will start to be fully realized in the coming months as communities and SMTs are rolled out.

It won't just be YouTubers that are affected and impacted by this...

Influencers across the web that are relying on centralized 3rd parties for their livelihood will start really understanding the value of owning your content.

Think places like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc...

That will be how steem really benefits from this movement, once they start looking for new homes as well.

This thing with YouTube was just the starting point, all it did was just get the snowball rolling.

Over time that snowball will keep building and building as it rolls along. Eventually reaching a tipping point. At that point steem will be ready and waiting with open arms.

We just got past the difficult part.

By the way, the author of that tweet posted above is a reporter for Cointelegraph. The more times steemit and or steem wins polls like the one above, the more likely we are to see steem written about in future articles on Cointelegraph or other crypto news outlets...

It never hurts to have friends in the press. :)

Stay informed my friends.

It is amazing how people who are supposedly in this industry mess it all up. You are right about where we stand. Things are moving in the right direction and 2020 will be a tremendous year for Steem.

Happy New Year @jrcornel.

That's the hope. Once we launch these things we are going to need to do some tremendous marketing though if we really want to see some growth.

I mean it would have made more sense if they said Steem (the blockchain), but still like you mentioned there is not a video service on Steemit [yet].. I was just talking about this the other day asking if Steemit wants to be just a blogging site or if it wants to be like the Homepage of all SMTs/Communities with things like 3Speak, Dtube, or whatever the top Steem dApps are at the time..

The thing that makes the most sense to me is having steem as a base layer only, reducing the inflation to almost nothing, and having steemit.com switch over to an smt... but what do I know :)

I agree that the publicity of the YT Purge was great, and even though the reports of Steem over estimated its current abilities, I agree that’s a good problem to have LOL 😂

I also agree that we are living through potentially critical turn the corner times and as the developers and others involved with Steemit continue to work on improving the platform we get closer and closer to the dream. We aren’t there yet, but I am very encouraged that we can make it!

I just hope we have the funds to market the heck out of it when the time is right.

I know that everyone who needs to know this already knows this but it is worth reiterating. I've personally on-boarded half a dozen people to Steem and predominantly @threespeak and number one priority is a simple system to hide the complexity of keys. Whether this is followed by users being able to take ownership of their keys later (or leave them in the hands of a trusted log in system) or whatever the techs come up with, this is THE step needed to ever gain mass adoption.

Yes, that is an issue for sure. Though I'd lump that in with the overall complexity of the platform. It's not really simple enough for the masses (complexity of keys included).

Hi @jrcornel i doubt if it is better Lbry or Dtube. I'd prefer Dtube because it's based on the STEEM blockchain. What is your advice?

They are very different and I don't make many videos so not much reason for me to use either at the present time. Though I would go with anything built on steem at this point because I am biased.

Thanks for reply

Steem is an acceptable tradeoff, the problem is the video hosting incentive

Yep, that is a problem. Hopefully that can be remedied at some point with a new app or update to steem.
