Help me present Steem to Swiss University's Alumni in Bangalore

Tomorrow night, I have 5 minutes to present Steem to an audience of mostly engineers who studied master or PhD level in Switzerland. I want to make the best of it and introduce Steem in a way that they really feel motivated to explore it. Here is how I want to talk about it:

Keep in mind, I'm doing this presentation with one goal. Getting as much people to send me their emails to get a Steem account.
So it's more about making a sales pitch for Steem instead of a
technical presentation, which I would have started with.

Here is the plan:

  1. Problem
  2. Opportunity
  3. Steem acounts give-away announcement
  4. More opportunity
  5. End
  6. Death fight among the audience to get one the 5 Steem account give-away :)

Intro:

  1. At that point of the evening I should have already an idea about the level of involvement in the crypto field of the audience. But if not, a quick poll about who already bought bitcoin once should help.

  2. Let's tell them I have 5 Steem accounts to give.

  3. At that point they are thinking: what the fuck is Steem and why should I care about getting a Steem account? So let me rewind a bit and not talk about the account give-aways just now.

Problem:

  1. Second poll about who has an instagram account? facebook account?

  2. Don't you think it's a little bit unfair that when you share your content, you receive back some likes and more tracking from the big F company? While the big F is capturing all the value from the network.

  3. Don't you think it's a little bit scary when you install one of the big F company apps, they show you ads from things you have only talked about and never written about? Might be an urban legend but it helps to contextualize the problem. Do you see the problem with one single centralized company tracking so many people?

  4. Well, there a community of people who thinks it's unfair and they created a decentralized blockchain social network to reward people attention with money instead of sucking attention at all cost in exchange for fake likes. This blockchain is called Steem and I have 5 accounts to give away tonight.

  5. Moreover on top of the reward for attention, Steem is censorship-resistant. It means nobody can censor your content or exclude you for a political reason.

  6. Steem is also an exceptionally fast blockchain. There is a new block created every 3s. Comparatively, bitcoin is creating a new block every 10min.

  7. Not only it is fast, it is also exceptionally easy to transact on the Steem blockchain. Do you want me to send money to Barbara. Well it is very easy, I use Barbara's username as the recipient address. It is not the gibberish and machine-friendly only address of bitcoin.

  8. It is un-hackable. It is build with security as first layer of the system. Security is not an after-thought that came later on. Security is the foundation of the Steem blockchain. Unless you share your private key with someone else it is not possible to obtain your STEEM coins.

Opportunity

  1. There is 2 built-in mechanisms in the Steem blockchain to get STEEM token payouts:

    Creating content and/or upvoting content.

  2. Example: I create a piece of content about my life in India with wife and kids. When people upvote my content I get some STEEM locked-in. And at the end of the 7th day, the STEEM are locked-out and distributed 75% to the creator and 25% to the curators, i.e., the one who up-voted the content.

  3. That's it, the foundational layer of Steem and why everyone is getting intrigued by STEEM and get started:

    making money while blogging.

  4. Can you make a living blogging on Steem? Well it depends. It's more difficult right now as we are still in a bear market: the market has been contracted and conversion from STEEM to fiat money is weak. To give you an idea one STEEM is valued to 0.50$ at the moment. At the lowest of the bear market it was valued at 0.23$. And at the market top it was valued at 8$.

More opportunity

  1. In addition to meet awesome crypto early-adopters, Steem is also much more. Steem can also be a way to have more regular passive income. It's getting more advanced at this point, so let me explain you the STEEM delegation mechanism.

  2. You can choose at any time to lock some of your STEEM and transform it into STEEM POWER. The more SP you have the bigger payouts you will get with each new content you write. Why? The amount of SP you have define the weight of your upvote.

  3. Delegation is also the opportunity to lend SP to a project without giving up the ownership of the underlying STEEM asset. For example, I can choose to delegate some SP to a gambling application to receive daily dividends from their profit.

  4. To conclude, let me tell you I believe Steem has a chance to be the future of social networking. So as an investor, what is the opportunity to work on earning STEEM at 0.50$ currently and what could be the perceived price of STEEM at the next market top?

  5. I made the calculations. Assuming Steem is valued at 10% of the social network market (50B$). Then, accounting with the programmed inflation, each STEEM coin could be valued at 140$. I hope it will be justified, but that's definitely what we could expect from irrational speculation at the next market top.

Thanks for reading that far. What's your take on this pitch?

Steem on!

Just go on and do it

Hello jonmaim,

Yeah I like it all I think the great atmosphere between the technical and the friendly fun way😜 is gonna provoke a lot of PhD to fall in love with STEEM and all his community😍, or at least I hope they do.

Most importantly have a great day!🌞

thanks to share your valuable information.

sorry I saw it to late your post. The day must be over already? How it was? Its good, that you give accounts to them and they not try to get one account by register themself, because that that's tooo long time. I register as well for an Sri Lanka guy an account, because his registration email from Steemit never comes.... even after a month there was nothing

It was a fun evening, but I got surprised how early we are in the crypto age, because people asked very fundamental questions like "What's the use of crypto-currencies?"

oh yes, until now- I only find a very view people who really understand the crypto Money. Mostly didn't hear about it and some hear but they don't know what it is for.
