If you came to steem to make money. Take a second to see what you're missing!

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

Most people see $ signs and our adrenaline pumps. I need more money, and this how easily you can earn it. Write some posts, even if they aren't top notch, you can earn a few cents, and hey, it's free!

If you take a second, and look at the larger picture, #Steem actually provides so much more.  Everyone is so focused on the money part of steem, it is easy to forget about the real picture.

What we have here is a new way for top quality, unique content, to be seen by people around the world without censorship.   If you have good, unique content, it automatically will generate upvotes and get comments and people appreciating the post.

If you have ever written your own blog before, you will understand this problem very clearly.

"How do I get my blog to be found easier in google?"

  • Well, simply buy some pay-per-click ads (that costs money)
  • Well, simply advertise in other ways (that costs money)
  • You could pay for people to link to your page (that costs money)
  • You could get mainstream media to interview you  (that is near impossible)
  • You could hope you accidentally go viral (that's what everyone hopes for)

OR

Your voice can, and will be heard on steemit.  You may not appreciate the response, but that is the community deciding.

  • Google doesn't decide.  (Yay!)
  • Professional bloggers with sponsors don't decide (Yay!)
  • Adwords doesn't decide! (Yay!)
  • You can do this for free! (Yay!)

Steemit has levelled the playing field and made a significantly fair system.

Don't believe me?  A good post (with quality, unique, content) is liable to get voted up and get attention it deserves even if people try to deliberately circumvent your posts to upvote their own.

How do I know this?  Steemit's population is growing by the day.  There is going to be too many in the community who will want to read and participate in good quality content, because after all, this is not just about making money.

It is about believing in the system. It is believing that something has been created to encourage the world to have a fair place to speak.

I feel a heck of a lot better posting something to steemit, having it noticed and read by people, than I do my own blog!

I have an old blog, with about 400 posts, and mediocre visits sent to me by google.  Google would rather I SEO the whole thing to death, speed oodles of money advertising it, and tricking social media into linking to me.

The same blog post can be written right here on steemit. I don't need SEO. I don't need money advertising it. I don't need to trick social media to link to me.

All I need to do, is write something the community will appreciate, and the offset is that I might earn something for it too.

Note:  I either post on steemit *OR* my blog. But never both.  Any post you read from me on steemit is freshly written, just for steemit.

Most of you reading this might be worried about accumulating as much steem dollars as you can before this system goes bust.  I will tell you, it was designed for the long term. Busting this will not happen easily.  It won't.

Sure there are features and polish missing. I've even identified some of them.

The point is..  all of a sudden I feel a breath of fresh air on the internet for where I'd like to share my content.  I hope many of you do too.

We're now leaving the old method of getting seen on the internet and launching a completely new era.

It's a very inspirational and exciting time!

P.S.  Please upvote so other people fixated on filling steem with junk can realize there is more important reasons to use steem. Those people are just cheating themselves. :)

Great article, You mentioned some benefits that I never even thought about! I love being able to talk about a wide range of subjects on here and still get a good number of votes for it.

I have found that this site may even be a good way to promote my business a little bit down the line! Also I've been improving my writing too! Steemit is good for a million of things, And I hope people aren't only focused on the money aspect.

A free tip for you. :) Later down the line, if you do promote your business, be sure to give steem people a special discount. They would appreciate that.. I'm sure you thought of that already. :)

Love rummaging through old posts to find stuff like this. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Very well said!

I like the enthusiasm but I dislike the overt asking for an upvote - to me it insults the readers intelligence. I'll upvote you, but just this once ;P

Understood. The only reason why I asked for it "this time" (and if you check my previous post, I didn't do that), is because this is information that needs to get to people. Not because I wrote it. But I've been stumbling over all these newbies that believe the key to steemit and quality is running around the internet, and copy/pasting as much existing info from whatever sources they can find.

This is the lazy way of trying to earn steem dollars, at the expense of cluttering up the site with stale dated information that google has already previously indexed.

If I want to see what's already on the internet, I don't need to come to steemit to find it. What I do come to steemit for, is new, fresh, unique content I can't find anywhere else. That's the hook that keeps me coming back.

Edit: I don't mind links to existing news stories, as long as the poster comments about why they find it a significant article, in their own words, or adds their own value added content to it in some way.

I agree. It's sad to see some posts on here do really well when they're really just regurgitation of content from other places. I usually downvote those unless there is some new context or insight along with it.

I'm happy for now that it's a medium at the moment, that is not biased trough what money wants to show you. This might change in the future, but for now it seems like a great way of connecting and communicating to each other.

I agree. I had the idea of developing a Steem blogging platform, something that will allow a person to create a classic blog, but it will still live on the Steem blockchain.

Basically, a site that pulls posts for a single person....

Great unique content - you deserve to hoover up the dollars!

Great post @intelliguy! Very true words.

One little correction, I think that "speed oodles of money advertising it" should be "spend oodles of money advertising it".

I do hope that more people realize this and use Steemit to its full potential, and even add to its value with new ideas for better social media and content creation models.

Cheers,

I recommend you consider a "smaller" advertisement. Right now, it's 50% advertising, and 50% is the actual comment of what you're writing.

You're probably less likely to offend people with an "ad signature" if 90% of what you wrote is an actual comment, and 10% is a one-2 line small text ad (maybe small logo).

Since I feel your legitimate comment was used in an abusive way (simply to spam an advertisement on a dated post that still might gain some readership) I'm going to downvote it. But now you know why at least.

P.S. You're right on the typo, but unfortunately it's a paid out post, that I can no longer edit. The system will not let me..
