Of Steemit and Pokémon Go: The Crazy Stats, Weird Events, and Similarities

I was going through my Feedly account when I stumbled on a number of articles on Pokemon Go. The more I read through them, the more I saw the journey of Steemit in them.
It’s been an amazing journey these past 7 days on Steemit and the growth has been dizzying.
For those not familiar with the game, Pokemon Go is an augmented reality smartphone game, from Niantic and Nintendo. The mobile app puts players into a world of Pokémon. Players can catch the creatures, help them evolve and take them to battle, all while leveling up themselves.
This is made possible by using your phone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and make Pokemon appear around you.
The Crazy Stats
Pokemon Go
Bigger than Tinder and on its way to smashing Twitter’s “daily active users” ceiling.
The game managed to colonize over 5% of Android devices in the U.S. just 48 hours after release
More than 60% of those who've downloaded it use it daily
Steemit
The pics below say it all
Pokemon Go
Ever since it was released, a lot of crazy stuff have been happening:
a Wyoming teen found a dead body while playing the game
a Singapore expat gets fired for raging on Facebook about not having Pokémon Go yet
Pokémon Go is sending people to some really strange places like gravestones, abortion memorials etc
Alarmingly, people have been hurting themselves and wrecking their cars. In fact, some people were robbed at a pokestop.
Steemit
#Steemit Addiction is real. HAHAHA. :)
SimilaritiesI read an article on How Pokemon Go Went Viral with Little Marketing and I was amazed at how similar Pokemon Go and Steemit were in virality tactics.
Little or No Marketing
Most of Steemit tremendous rise has been due to the word of mouth and social media. Chat rooms are buzzing with discussions about Steemit driving new signups to the moon.
Here’s Steemit search profile:
Likewise, Pokemon Go has been having out-of-nowhere success on the wings of core fans' anticipation and massive, unsolicited word of mouth on social media
Future Plans
The future of 'Pokémon Go' includes trading and exchange of points.
Trading is also part of the roadmap. "We think that that, in particular, is going to drive a lot of cooperation, competition and social interactions between people"

Market Cap and Shares
The Pokemon Go game has brought in an estimated $1 million in daily net revenue, after developers' 30% cut to Apple and Google.
This has also brought an attendant rise in the stocks of Nintendo.
For the past 7 days, Steem has been experiencing tremendous growth, market cap has more than doubled. And we have risen through the ranks of cryptos to a current No 5 position. And a unit of steem is now worth more than a dollar.
With over 500 new daily account creations, it can only get better.
Rollout to other continents
Pokemon Go is only available in some selected countries and it’s already experiencing this huge success. If and when it becomes available worldwide, its success would be jaw-dropping.
Similarly, Steemit has only received massive adoption in US and Europe. Despite this, its user metrics compete favorably with that of other social networks like Medium, Reddit and Twitter. When it finally conquers Africa and Asia, its user base, market cap and total worth will shoot through the roof.
The Journey has just started. And it's certainly becoming better.
Steem on !! Go!!
There's a game coming out soon on the PC and PS4 - No Man's Sky.
It's some thing like an open infinite-universe adventure game, would be nice to see a gaming adventure community going on in steemit to post and discuss about their findings in such a universe..
great post @infovore . Keep it up!

Thank you for providing the stats because I was curious.
Thanks for taking the time to read thanks.
I swear, every time I open up anything on the internet I see things about Pokemon Go. It would be pretty cool if Steemit hit those heights too.
Can't wait for that too. It's been a crazy ride ever since I joined.
This article is wrong. steemit.com does an immense amount of marketing. They're paying $200 for articles that should be worth $20. They can't continue at this pace forever. After the big payouts stop this site will not see much more growth.
