My thoughts on Steemit after 15 months, 800 followers and a single powerdown.steemCreated with Sketch.

Well I wish I wouldn't had powered down at all!

That's my main thought after finally powering down a single payment. And I have a feeling many people have thought the same as they're seeing Steemit gain popularity day by day.

People all around the world are coming together and sharing their passions with each other, this wouldn't even be possible using Facebook! I wouldn't had stumbled to @artwatch any other way and there's ton of artists just like her here. Sometimes it's just hard to find them but they are there!

When communities arrive, we all will be able to gather around common interests and it will make me leave Reddit for good. This will also help us find others with compatible interests and rewards will find their way to top content providers - this is how I see it. Instead of having 1 trending page for all content that is popular, we have many, specialized for different kinds of content.

Setting goals for yourself

I've decided that I wouldn't settle for anything less than having a dolphin status here. I'm starting to believe Steemit and Steem ecosystem will be a huge success for years to come and I want to be part of it. This will enable me to have a bigger say here and bigger voting power will make sure that content creators I like will feel that they're appreciated here. Steem is like a big ship and by holding SP we all get to steer it.

Dtube came out of nowhere and that's just work of one man, @heimindanger. This is an alternative to Youtube we've all been waiting for. No more will we be at mercy of the corporations who'se interest seem to have taken over Youtube lately. People are getting demonetized left and right out of the blue. People are looking for alternatives and we are here building them.

Imagine, just by holding SP we are positioned to profit from the success of all the different platforms built upon Steem blockchain! Steemit and Steem is still in the shadows of consciousness of the public but this can change very fast! I've made a post before about network effects of Steem before, you might want to read it here : https://steemit.com/steemit/@igster/why-people-will-leave-facebook-twitter-instagram-reddit-quora-pinterest-and-tumblr-for-services-built-on-steem - it's 3 months old but it should hold even more true today. The vision is only getting brighter as we together built it to reality.

Dtube is just a start

If you haven't heard of @zappl or @steepshot yet, you should do a bit of research on them! These two will provide Steemit users with serviceswe have grown to know as Twitter and Instagram. But with the help of Steem technology, your likes will actually support the content creators and sharers! And if you happen to be holding Steem Power, you will also benefit from all these platforms gaining popularity as you are a shareholder.

It will be very hard to compete with that by the traditional services. Or is it just me?

I have personally started trying to learn developing for Steem and I must say...

Steemit Inc is on the right track. They are focusing on the backend and making the blockchain scalable. This will enable many different websites and services to start using Steem. And trust me, there'll be many of them. Dtube came out of nowhere, and I'm sure it's not the last one. Steemjs enables those with javascript knowledge to start building their own websites and integrate the cool profit sharing technology effortlessly! One of them could be the next Facebook. We are discovering whole new area of the internet thanks to Steemit and this is one of the major things that makes me bullish.

Personally, I will be trying my best to build services on top of Steem that people will find useful. I already have couple of ideas and one that is nearing beta-phase. Folderall is something I started building before I joined Steemit and now I've been integrating it slowly to Steem week by week. Learning as I go by. But it's something I've mainly built for myself and I treat it as a learning project. I've already started a new one with the purpose of providing a service also other Steemers will find useful. More of that later...

So, I'm bullish on Steemit for all the reasons listed above. How about you?

Do you also share this view of great future for Steem ecosystem?

Thank you for reading!

Sorry I didn't get to resteeming this right away. Love this perspective. Thanks for the shoutout too. You are also a diamond in the rough and I look forward to your continued projects and success on steemit. Free thinkers - developers and community minded individuals will launch this platform to where it needs to go. I will always show my continued support for you and your creative endeavors (maybe a bit sporadic support at times).

Much LUV,
HR

You shouldn't be sorry about such a thing! I wasn't expecting one at all so thank you.

And I wouldn't expect anything less from you - I'm talking about the sporadic spurs of support :) That's how I tend to do most of my things after all also so I know what it's like. Hectic!

Keep doing you, I'll be there to check on from time to time when I'm not busy scheming plans and dreaming visions.

Don't feel too bad about powering down. We all need to take profit sometimes. Just keep up the consistency with the quality posts and you will have more Steem than you'll know what to do with!

It made me realise how much I want to reach this goal of mine more than anything. New people are joining every day with similar goals and Steem will get rarer. I'll get there for sure but it will be a long journey.

What is powering down?

How do I avoid doing that?

You can choose to power up your Steem. This will lock up your Steem and in exchange your voting power goes up. The amount your votes give is directly related to yout Steem Power. When you wish to sell some Steem and you only have Steem Power, you can choose to start powering down it. This will change your Steem Power back to Steem once a week and you can then sell it for btc for example.

At this point I have 0 steam and .905 steem power..so it seems I am not powering up anything at the present moment.

Yep, you better just hold on to everything you'll get and power up.

  • If you like the platform of course or want to have a bit more say in it. Even 1 cent upvote and a good comment could mean a world to someone.

Thanks for all the assistance. I will keep plugging along with the commenting and posting...let the chips fall where they want.

Don't make it a work is my advice or really put in the effort. Even then one has to prepare for not making enough. The competition on the internet is fierce.

But even 1 cent is more than I've gained anywhere else for all my comment and posting so it's a win for me.

Very true. Facebook or Reddit never knocked on my door offering me a check either. Hell Zuckerberg could have at least given everyone a share of stock from his billions.

I love your positivity. I remain excited about Steemit myself, though a bit more realistic then when I first started. But I love that this site not only brings people together, it inspires them to work together on bigger and better things. It's a Bright future indeed!

And yes, we have to be realistic and not get ahead of ourselves. Few billion in marketcap could be reached after we have several products adopted by people that aren't familiar with crypto in number. The fact you're here is a sign that the product is working. We're on the right path, we just need to be patient and let time and community do it's work.

Bitcoin took 9 years to get where it's at now. I wonder where Steem will be at that age.

I've always visioned great things for Steemit and at times I've myself scoffed at them but I'm seeing the change and I'm starting to believe it.

When people are offered two similar services with a difference that in the other you can get rewarded, reward others and by doing so become a shareholder in a whole ecosystem - It's just a matter of time in my eyes that majority will choose the "better one". We just need to build these services up to standard and the choice will be made very easy for them.

I think steemit has some very transformative opportunities. The feedback loop of a clear payout is going to keep attracting people.

This is so true. I've seen things that couldn't had happened on any other social platform. This is an interesting look in to human psychology in itself. It's all about rewarding good behavior and we'll see more and more of it. We'll see where this all will lead us.

Thanks for posting your perspective on Steemit. It's good to hear from someone who's been here a while. I've only been here since June of this year.

I'm also interested in developing blockchain applications and I'm learning javascript. Just started following you now.

Welcome to Steemit.

Yes, I've been an active user for 15 months now and it's been quite a ride.Early on it was just a small circle of users and one learned to know everyone by their nicks quite fast but now every post on trending has people commenting that I've never seen before. This change has happened quite fast I might add.

I do still visit Reddit daily for content but I hope eventually the creators will come here or some other service built upon Steem. I, myself bring some of it back here and I will eventually start using my Folderall project to show those on Reddit how they can start earning for their creations easily.

Have you already tried using Steemjs? I was positively surprised on how easy it was to start with. I've had more troubles getting React running...

I haven't tried Steemjs yet, but have read through articles about it. I played around with @pilcrow's jsFiddle demo this afternoon and read through some of the code: https://jsfiddle.net/52k35t9n/20/

It's really a great feeling to see Steemit data show up in jsFiddle. Steemjs does look really great and I'll be hopefully building something with it soon, even it's really simple.

Thanks, this is something I will also need as I just started integrating Steemjs to my project.

Building something simple and making sure how to get every single feature to work is a good foundation to build on.

I came for the greed, stayed for the community.

I can still feel the greed in me. Gaining Steem will get harder day by day as userbase grows and with it the competition - Steemit is trying to offer people ways to satisfy their greed and do good at the same time and I like it. Creativity and good deeds will be rewarded, well it depends on us really but that's what I'm hoping for.

good luck, hey if you've been here for 15 months i'll call you more than minnow... i christen thee steem trout !! (-:

Haha, I like it! I've been through the tough times when Steem was 7 cents a each and morale of the community was at its lowest after all!

You're right my friend , I identify with what you say , regards

Thank you. I have a feeling it isn't just me and you. Everyone wants their share of Steem! I'm feeling the rush, heh :)

I look at its market cap right now and the ability for people to share interesting ideas about almost anything. That leads me to believe there is a lot of room for growth. I think more people will migrate to this kind of social media. If we are going to post content and potentially personal information on our accounts, why not get paid for it?

You're right. And why people wouldn't want to switch over to services that function all the same but you as a user get more out of it? It will be easy choice for many and it will eventually pull in majority of the people. The rewards should be distributed as the users are the ones who bring the value!

With couple very successful websites and applications built upon Steem, few billion market cap wouldn't be out of reach.

Upvoted and followed you.

You did well in your time here. I am not sure what a Dolphin is on here (I heard of whale) but I believe I want to be one also.

Thank you for this post. You made me realize there is a lot going on here and that we all can profit from having this community grow. Like all cryptocurrencies, the more people with them, the greater the value of them. Steemit gives the currency out as a reward/payment and then gives people a forum to use it.

It is a wonderful system.

There are marketplaces like ebay being built for Steem and Steem Dollars, also old style forums called chainBB built by @jesta. wasn't mentioned in the post but it's one more cool application for us. I'm sure there are many more that we're not even aware of yet.

If I remember correctly user reaches dolphin status with 10 million vests or 4800 Steem Power so these terms are described to categorize users based on their Steem Power.

Thank you for your reply.

I am nowhere near close to that. It is my intention to stick with this and learn all I can. It really is a platform, so it seems, where people can earn income simply by doing the things they did on the other social platforms you mentioned. By sharing knowledge, whether from our minds or links of others, we help to grow humanity. This is an incredible opportunity to help free people from the bondage of a system that had them doing all the work for little gain.

Yes, crypto is making things fair again. There are alternatives being built for Uber as an example. And this all started from Satoshi Nakamoto. It's been a long journey.

It sounds like you have been on this journey for a while. I hope you profited from it and were in early on some of the recent breakthroughs.

For myself, I am a bit late to the game....fortunately, I see it as a game that we are in the very early stages. If it was football, we just had the opening kickoff. There is still a lot of time left.

This is the start of internet dot com bubble. You're well ahead of the pack. It will burst but not before reaching way higher numbers and then the strongest will survive and truly become giants like Amazon today.
