Steemit.com is the main platform to access the Steem Blockchain. Steemit.com is a mixture of an social media platform like Facebook for example and a blogging platform like Twitter or Reddit.
Those platforms generated Billions of Dollars throughout the last years - mainly the users of the platforms created those Dollars by creating and sharing content and this way getting interessting for advertising and so on.
The users had fun the owners had the money.
The inventors of Steem wanted to change that.
80 % of the financial gains of Steemit.com goes back to the ones who created, curate and share the contents. 20 % are used for maintaining the service.
