Or, why I gave up trying to convert SBD and fell in love with Power Up 100%

If you were keeping an eye on my posts, about 26 days I stopped doing the default 50/50 rewards on my posts and went straight Power Up 100%. This and the other article posts reflect this change by adding the STEEMit logo to the end of the title.

I decided that it was just the right thing to do.

In the past, I wrote an article The Quickest Way to Go From Steem Dollars to Power Up, this information is still true. I expect that, while I am at Power Up 100%, there will be times when I earn SBD from comments or curation, so I will need to convert up to Steem POWER. However, later I wrote and article SBD to STEEM a Market vs Conversion Discussion, which discussed the issue with using the Market or other methods of selling SBD to get STEEM. The main problem is, SBD is an IOU for STEEM and if it doesn't get destroyed, it affects STEEM in a negative manner. Because of this, I decided that I would only use the Conversion method of moving SBD to STEEM. Frankly, if anyone wants a long-term investment from STEEM, they should do the same.

That was going fine, until I went through another up and down cycle of STEEM. It just seemed very annoying to watch large rewards get cut down by the price fluctuation of STEEM. And recently, it seemed as if there was a STEEM pump and dump weekends trend going on. Nothing is more annoying than watching the price of something being manipulated on a regular basis. Almost as annoying as finding bots sucking up rewards. So, I decided I had enough of the ups and down and would just send my rewards directly to Steem POWER.

My initial goal with STEEMit was to earn enough rewards so that I had enough Power to upvote my articles for a basic good payout for each article. No, I do not upvote my own comments, but I think everyone should be allowed to upvote their own articles. If you understand that it takes 500 STEEM Power/ 1 million VESTs to turn from a Red Fish to a Minnow, you know that upvoting your own posts isn't a bad thing.

Personally, I have been very fortunate in my short time on STEEMit. I have earned over 400 STEEM Power. I have had multiple articles get touched by whales and generous upvoting. But, this is not what the average Red Fish sees. You can look at my
Where am I in the STEEMit World : September1st article to see my rankings. I am ranked in the top 500 of posts. Top 500 of over 300,000 registered users. I'm in the top 5,000 of posting rewards.

Anyone can look at those numbers and understand, a lot of people on STEEMit, do not earn a lot for their posts.

So, back to the Power Up 100%. Every newbie Red Fish's goal should be building up your STEEM Power. It doesn't matter if, in the real world, $50 is what you make in a week or what you make an hour. If you want STEEMit to work for you in the long run, you need to have enough STEEM Power for your upvote to work. Currently, at 400 STEEM Power, my full 100% vote is only worth $0.06. If I was doing my 4 articles a day, I would only be earning making $0.24 a day or $1.68 a week, before payout splits and STEEM price fluctuation. It is going to take a lot more STEEM Power for my upvote to mean something. Which means, I don't need to waste time waiting for a 3 day conversion to add to my STEEM Power.

Sure, I bet someone will comment on how you can buy more STEEM when the STEEM to SBD prices fluctuate, but does it really matter? No, it doesn't. Just keep building up your STEEM Power. Eliminate the needs for IOUs that hurt STEEM price.

Join me and Power Up 100% your own articles!!

I decided that same thing a while back. I now am doing it just a tad different since I've earned a level of Steem Power of 1000 (just a personal goal). Now I want to see what it's like to reach a SBD amount that I can try to turn into USD. many people (non-users) are very skeptical of this platform since I cannot answer the question of "How much have you made?" is "real" money terms. It's all a fun game and I think you have touched on some very valuable tips to make this game work well for any minnow! Great article :)

Thanks.

Great job on reaching your goal. 1000 is a good goal, I think I might shoot a bit higher for it to be worth while, but I'm not sure how long it will take. At the current rate I am going, I probably could reach 1000 by my 1 year anniversary on STEEMit.

However, I'm not sure if you reach a certain level if it the big upvotes don't come easier. Who knows, maybe a bot will start upvoting my posts again. LOL

I miss the $20 upvotes of @Donkeypong and several others....

Well, he's a whale and apparently still out there dropping $100 upvotes.
I was talking about the $0.25 I was getting by some currator bots upvoting my posts.

I'd be happy with 25 cents

Do not make my bunghole angry!... You have any holio?

Yes... just this week I figured out how to convert both STEEM and SBD to Litecoin or Bitcoin and send to Coinbase where it can be transferred to a bank in US Dollars. I did 3 tranfers but have decided to keep most in Steem Power.

Until steeit changes the code to not allow you to upvote your own posts I see no issues with upvoting them.

I've 100% powered up (no sbd rewards) several articles and completely agree that if you believe in the long term value of steemit everyone should be doing exactly that unless they have time to watch the market all day everyday or have taken the time to understand the market and when the best time is to convert your SBD to Steem.

You may have been forturnate here on Steemit, but you can't say your sucess has just been fortunate because I see the "grind" you've been putting in.

Thanks for the kind words.

I know I have probably put in more effort than a lot of people, but, unfortunately, it still does come down to a bit of luck when it comes to a big payout for post.

I have come to the same conclusion and moving most of what I have to Steem Power... it seems to take about 3 months to figure this stuff out. Upvoted.

I noticed a couple of the big players moving to 100% as well.
I think the drop in the price and no real sign that it is going to hit $2 any time soon is having an effect.

Is it better to be stingy with any upvotes so that your Steem Power stays strong ? I notice my upvoted are worth zero

Yes. For the most part, I try not to do more than 10 upvotes a day.
I know I'll be off-line for a few days, so the extra upvotes I did today will build back up while I am gone. But, there really is no good reason to sink your upvote power below 80%. Low upvotes don't help you or the person you upvote.

Where do I go to see my upvote power ?

https://steemnow.com/ shows it.
It might not be the most accurate.

You have really explained a lot in this post I didn't really understand about the conversion and have seen the pump and dump on the weekends hope that stops soon. have followed you and have nothing to lose by taking 100% in steam power so thank you for taking the time to write this.

You're welcome.
I wanted to write this up earlier, but I got distracted by other things and forgot to post it.

ha ha is good logic deanlogic now I am reading your other posts.Kinda wish there were residual payouts for older posts because it would probably seen more I am learning to use the search more often and just learning as much as I can I don't want to burn out trying to write my blogs to much and then be discouraged because of the low payouts I just need to change my attitude.I am sure when the student is ready the teacher will arrive. lol

Believe me, I had the discussion about low paying posts and being able to resubmit them for another payout term. My idea would be that they would just have to set a maximum payout and anything below that value could be resubmitted after 30 days to receive the payout again.

There are many posts from the past that are still good information.

However, you'll see the same topic appear multiple times by different users, because they don't do a search and just post what they want to. And since the payout term ends after 7 days, it really doesn't matter, because people are less likely to view something over a week old. I consider that a bit of a weakness built into STEEMit.

As far as the burnout thing. I did 4 articles a day for 2 months and while that really didn't burn me out, life plus that did burn me out a little bit, so I cut back on a couple of the posts that really weren't going anywhere. Most of my big payout posts are unique, but I tried to make one into a series. Since the other two posts in that series didn't payout like the first one, I decided that it was just luck that I got the payout on the first one. However, I will probably post some more in that series.

Anyway, the key is not to look at the whales and what they are posting, they are already whales, so it doesn't matter what they post. Just post what you want, but make it a quality post.
