Awesome to see the value of steem going up. :) Also.. A question about coinbase and some other thoughts about crypto stuff.steemCreated with Sketch.

I just checked and.. Steem is at $1.94 and SBD is at $5.95! Woot.

I've been trying to figure out how to cash out so I can take a bit out to get a drone.. Though.. It hasn't been easy for me.
After a lot of research I tried the most popular wallet coinbase, I decided this because I'm planning on holding all of my steem in my steem wallet.
So I'm basically just taking out some to get a drone and I don't need to worry about being hacked that much since I'll be keeping the rest of my steem where it is.
Yet.. I've been unable to verify my ID with pictures of my drivers license.. I dunno if it's cause I have an old ID or because the lighting isn't good enough or what..
I'm kinda frustrated. Not sure what to do, maybe I'll try another exchange.

Does anyone have any advice here in regards to perhaps getting a better quality picture for the ID, or using another exchange?
Is there another one that allows Paypal? Hopefully I don't have to go get a new Drivers License.. Mine is still technically valid even though it's older..
It would be great if they could tell me exactly why it wasn't accepted so I could know how to fix it, maybe I can email their tech support and try to get more personal help?
One of my friends on here said to try Bittrex, does that allow you to cash out with PayPal? Or to a bank acount? Or..?
I'd like to do it through Paypal if possible..

Also I think I discovered why steemit has been growing in value so slow..
It's linked to bitcoin, you can't cashout as far as I know without going through bitcoin..
So.. It could be that as bitcoin rises in value, steemit does not.. And steem perhaps sort of acts like a steem valve for bitcoin..
This was disconcerting to me.. It makes me think like some others have said that steem will never raise to high levels.
I could be wrong, but that's sort of the impression I'm getting, and if so it makes more sense why steem hasn't been rising as much.

Also I'm more and more open minded to the conspiracies that bitcoin is a path for us in a conspiracy sense into the cashless society.
Though.. I still believe that more free crypto coins are a good step in the right direction of freeing people up financially.
Which is one reason steemit being tied to bitcoin concerns me so much, it's like being tied to the US dollar in a sense if it is true that that is the one the "elite" have chosen to be the main digital currency.
I thought steemit was more free and less decentralized, yet it's looking like.. If we're always going to be pegged to the bitcoin, we'll always be pegged to the main fiat source which is potentially orchestrated by government.

I'm not sure if there was any other way to do it since bitcoin is the most popular coin that exchanges are willing to really pay real money for, it's the most reliable one so to speak..
So.. Maybe steem had to piggyback on it at first? And in the future it could detach? I don't know.. Maybe I'm wrong about a lot of this! I don't totally understand how steem works admittedly.
Though it does seem as if you can't cash out without going through bitcoin, so.. They must be tied or attached at some level. How much? I'm not sure.

Sort:

With bittrex you can't cash out, you'll need to transfers it to another exchange like gemini coinbase abra etc.

Ah.. Okay I must have misunderstood the person. Thanks for the clarification!

@apolymask,
Bittrex is for trading! But I hate Bittrex to withdraw as BTC! They charge 0.001 BTC as withdrawal fee!
If you need to get BTC as USD you should try Coinbase or BitPay and you can directly deposit to your bank account or to your visa card via them!

Cheers~

Thanks bud! I'm trying to withdraw some, so I guess I'll try coinbase again. It's giving me trouble with identification verification and I'm not the only one, I googled it and a LOT of other people have similar problems.. So.. Not totally sure what to do, but maybe BitPay will help. I'll keep looking.

Wish I could give you some good advice there... but my "exit route" has generally been SBD to Bittrex; convert to BTC; BTC to Coinbase; Convert to USD; transfer to bank account. That's for the USA... I've also used Coinbase's PayPal cashout option and has usually been instant even though the message is "you'll be credited tomorrow."

I didn't have any trouble with the ID verification, however...

How much are you trying to take out? Last I checked, Coinbase let you take out 1 BTC (in total) before requiring ID verification.

There are other services that will exchange BTC to PayPal (Changex comes to mind) but they tend to charge pretty stout fees (hidden as a lousy exchange rate for USD).

Thanks for the info! It helped. Every little bit helps as I try to figure this out.
I have a feeling it might be because my ID is old, though it's technically still valid.. So.. Hopefully I can get a hold of some tech support or someone who works for them and try to figure out what exactly is wrong.

I'm trying to take out $1,000 USD. I think bitcoins are worth close to 15k now? So.. Yeah.. Heh.

Thanks for the tip about Changex! I will look into that possibility.

I would not try Bittrex, they locked me out of my account after accepting my deposits and doing trading for a long time. I found out when I tried to get my Steem out after selling 55 SBD over ten days ago. I have 95 Steem and a bit dime (.10 BTC) stuck there and technical support hasn't answered any of my requests to close my account and refund my my coins.

This guy apparently was a validated user that got locked out:

I think that going to decentralized exchanges where we can trade directly between parties is going to become the next issue to fix. As for now I'm not sure what to suggest; I use Coinbase and had no issues.

Bittrex has many different tethers to the US dollar and you could exchange from different coins there. Try Bittrex I have used it as an exchange and withdraw crypto to other wallets. I haven’t done US dollar to bank account but I’m sure once that’s set up you will be good. BTC is kinda like the main currency for now.

Yes, great to know that steem is finally getting closer to where its previous glory. SBD's rise would hopefully get more people paying attention and possibly participate on this plaform :)

I hope in 1 year or so, when I will decide to cash out, I don't have to go through all this!

Yeah.. Hopefully it's easier by then. I'm getting to the point where I just feel like waiting, I'm not the only one having issues.. A lot of people are. I might try BitPay... Though coinbase isn't working for me.

oh dear. Cheer up! I want to see the photo of a drone on your next post!

For now coinbase seems to be right for you and as for the Value of Steem and SBD is sky rocketing which does indeed feels goooodd!!

i use bittrex for exchange

@apolymask - If you still await to withdraw Steem & SBD you are a lucky guy Sir.... Now you can buy 2 drones by that previous amount of money :) Sir BitPay is a good option for you.... I hope it might work well in your country Sir....
