Who Wants to Build a 'Coloured Steem' Platform?
Wouldn't it be great if one could issue all kinds of assets on the Steem blockchain? Something like "Coloured Coins", where a Steem (or a fraction of it) would represent an asset like a share, a bond or a commodity? A Steem based platform which could be used to issue tokens, loyalty points, local currency units etc.?

I know there are a number of blockchain based projects working on this, but Steem has a big advantage: it is free of transaction fees. This is especially important in the case of small values such as loyalty points.
Imagine a café that is giving away a free coffee for ten points which you collect each time you buy a coffee there. In such a case, where a point has the value of a tenth of a cup of coffee, the transaction fee should be as low as possible. A transaction fee of zero is unbeatable, so Steem would be perfect for it.
We considered to use Steem for a loyalty project we are working on (see the following video), but unfortunately there is no feature to issue assets yet. So for our Minimum Viable Product, which should be on the market soon without too much development effort, we chose to use Bitshares instead (the project headed by Dan Larimer before he founded Steem). Bitshares offers this kind of features, but the transaction fees are not low.

We would surely be the first ones to switch to a Steem based asset platform, if it existed. So maybe we should just go forward and build it? Are there any developers out there who would like to get involved? Any other entrepreneurs who would like to use such a platform? Any investors who also think that this is a useful product with a good market potential?

I thought of the same idea today, but it seems like you beat me to it by 7 months....

Definitely something that would provide a lot of value, but not trivial to implement. Steem plugins are coded in c++ at the moment.
Colored coins were in fact the first thing I thought of when I heard about steem being a project of @dan, because I was working on decentralized exchange gateways at that time. They will certainly come, but we need patience. There are a lot more critical issues to be worked on.

I'm little bit skeptical of loyalty point ideas. Those have been floating around blockchain scene for a long time but I haven't seen anybody who had actually made any real innovations.
Blockchains are great for lots of stuff, but I'm not sure how loyalty programs will benefit. "Just put it into blockchain" is not a real strategy. If you want to disrupt, you need to come up with really revolutionary ideas. Transactionfeeless blockchain makes it just a little bit cheaper.
Just wait and see our programme, I think it will bring some real benefits for buyers and merchants. They won't even notice it is based on Blockchain technology, but it's great for settlements. So far a bit too expensive, that's why I think Steem can make a difference.
