Steem Music : Gig Collaboration with NGO - Small Changes

in #steem-music6 years ago

Yesterday was indeed an eventful day for #steem-music as we not only had a collaboration with Musicians on The Blockchain for a community workshop, we also had a gig collaboration with a local NGO - Small Changes.

The night started off with the Aiman, the fundraiser director of Small Changes sharing about what this NGO was all about. It started off in 2011, with a group of friends from Subang that wanted to help children that wanted to help children that didn't have access to decent education. It initially was just a fundraising event, which over time gathered a lot of momentum, leading to camps and going into rural areas to help the less privileged children.

He also shared about several projects that were in the pipeline for 2018 which included a recruitment, a bowling contest as well as a few workshops. We watched a short video clip about what 'privilege' means to certain individuals and it has indeed made an impact on every individual present last night. This NGO has been continuously creating awareness that we do not merely live of ourselves.

Here are a few of the volunteers from Small Changes performing a song by Adele - "To Make You Feel My Love". You couldn't help but notice their tagline being 'Small Changes, Big Differences".

Dr. Helmi, our gracious host from Liberal Latte invited his personal friend over to entertain us with a few tunes on his ukulele. Everyone joined in with him when he sang a Malaysian favorite "Kau Ilhamku".

Next up we had the privilege to have our very own @zulkiflisaadan and @mohar presenting to us some classics and even an original that shot him into stardom - "Bintang". It's not often we get to hear hauntingly beautiful flute music, what more from a musician of international standard! We are indeed blessed to have such talented musicians to be part of the community. 😀

Last but not least, our co-founder @zhusatriani accompanied one of the guests on the spot with a local classic from the legendary P. Ramlee. We couldn't let him off as you could hear the undying chants of 'Encore! Encore!' and he played a few more tunes including Kris Dayanti's - "Menghitung Hari" and George Michael's - "Careless Whisper".

@perennial then wrapped up the night by acknowledging all the performers and the awesome crowd. He also took the opportunity to share about how Steemit could actually help raise funds for the less fortunate, with some real-life examples in the recent past with #steem-cartoon. It's always exciting to see how Steemit, something we usually view as something in the virtual world, can make an impact in the very world that we're living in!

It was definitely a long day but looking at the happy faces of everyone, both musicians and audience, it was well worth it. I believe everyone not only brought home a bit of music, but also the awareness of helping others, especially the less fortunate.
