SE update - Down and Backup

in #steem-engine2 months ago

I'm not sure of the exact time, but sometime around 4am last night the Steem Engine node crashed. The american devs were contacted, and restarted the node. The node had to replay and has now finished replaying. Steem-Engine is functional again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For those saying this is the exact problem with a centralized service like this... we agree. The P2P layer that harpagon has been working on for a few months is nearing deployment, but has a bug in the code that's preventing us from launching it. The point though is that we're nearly done with the P2P system that should help prevent a single node from crashing the system.

Other things that are coming include- NFTs, accepting USD, and seems like a USD backed stable coin are all likely and I'm targeting Q1 for all of them. USD stuff is a small project (technically), NFT is a big project. When both of those are done we'll circle back and try to focus on site stability and increase load speed.

The cryptoconverter has run into a few hiccups. It's surprising challenging to get all blockchains interacting with eachother smoothly. I'm attempting to get another dev on the project there to help that work smoother.

As it turns out a lot of the work done for Splinterlands on integrating eth should be usable for Steem Engine. Hopefully soon we'll have ETH and all the ERC 20s tradable. Shortly after that I hope to have NFT bridges possible as well.

Good things are coming. Doing my best with a limited budget in a down market to make as much happen as possible. I apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience, and as of right this second all systems appear to be working.

Thanks for your work, not easy when the price is still low.

Nice one!
Will be great when there will be more nodes....
Thanks for all the good stuff!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Stuff happens. Keep up the good work.

Btw are there any plans to add ETHP to Steem-Engine? Would be great for the Ethereum integration of Splinterlands if you could get gas from SE.

More like burn ur gas for more DEC

thanks for information about the issue and good that it is solved now. but anyway, this project shows that we are still far away from the vision of independent network which cannot be shutted down by government. I am wondering how naive is to believe in 2020 in such of stories like decentralized systems taking down or taking over huge information or financial institutions.

Sometimes bugs are very simple to fix and sometimes not. I use visual studio and find the nearest points of where the bug is and then step the each line of code until I find it. I doubt you such an IDE but there is a way to do it in just about every development environment there is and yes it is tedious and mind numbing but make up your mind to manually trace abd you will get it solved- good luck

Hiccups never a problem. Appreciate all you do.

thanks for SE teams' efforts ! 💙
