The trending posts are changing - for the better
I have been monitoring what is trending over the past few weeks as we all do. The good news is that it is becoming more diversified.
If we look at a week or so ago, due to the number of new registration, we saw that most of the posts which made the big bucks, was travel and boobs :) Not that I have a problem with boobs :)
I do however believe that the trending posts should be a true reflection of the diversity of people on the platform. I love it when posts reach high numbers in voting and in dollars! I have not experienced this as yet, but hope to be one of the few that make it through the clutter to the trending screen. It is definitely not all about the money, as I have mentioned in many of my posts, it's about the challenge of solving the riddle of how to be noticed on Steemit. Let's face it. From the time you post , you have a maximum of 45 minutes to be noticed and in that time a big hitter needs to upvote you.
An interesting post I made last night about Google just send me a USD $15 Ad Campaign. had 46 Votes in 45 Minutes, which in my books is a good hit rate. Unfortunately none of the voters had any power, which then didn't move it up the value chain. It only paid out $0,26 in the end with a total of 54 votes at the end. For some reason, people only vote on posts which already have some value. Even if it is as low as a few $$$.
However, the good thing at this point in time is that STEEMIT is changing on a weekly basis. The current trending posts are all about people adding value to the platform. Any new development which adds value to the Steemit Platform are now making the top ranks. The various websites that are rising, SteemStats, Catch a Whale , Steem Pond , The New Iphone App, only to mention a few.
The most wonderful trend that I'm seeing picking up, is that older posts are now hitting the Trending list. Look at the current trending post, Cheetah Bot: The Fight Against Span and Plagiarism Continues . I really hope we see many more of the older posts coming back up the ranks.
The only thing that is still a bit mind-boggling is how, are people supposed to get to your older posts? We definitely need more functionality around the usual social features, like a working Follow functionality where you can see who you are following and who is following you.
What about a more detailed timeline, which not only show the new posts, but also who is voting for what etc?
My few Steemcents worth :)
Happy Steeming!!
I have ready many interesting posts here on Steemit and have gained knowledge and been alerted to newsworthy items. Let's hope that as we continue to expand Steemit will not only be a social platform but have research, news and entertainment value as well. To me the renumeration is an added bonus and a little incentive to be active!
The power in people's vote is an issue for sure right now. Even getting in with so called "dolphins" only takes it up a few pennies right now but all that will change in the next 5 or 6 months.
Agreed Mr. @brianphobos , we just need to hang in here. I know some people who are making a killing on this platform financially, but they have been in it for a few months already. I joined about 1 month too late to be part of the in crowed :)
Good news lets hope it continues. We definitely need better tools for finding posts.
The navigation and the fact that posts drop off within minutes to disappear into cyberspace is a bit frustrating. But I am a believer that the developers of the platform will enhance soon.
Indeed, a feed of users we are following would be a great feature. I'm pretty sure the devs are aware of several issues concerning the UX of Steemit, we should have to be a bit patient and good things will happened.
(Concerning the 40 upvotes you had on your previous post, unfortunately most of them are bots that auto-upvote on the steemit tag)
Hi @jako, I though as much when the up-votes happened so quickly. These type of bots are not good for the ecosystem. We should get rid of those!
Yes, I have noticed it too. It's a dramatic change from two weeks ago when every second post was about Makeup! It's a lot more diverse now, and the quality has risen too. Still a long way to go, but great progress.
changes for the better! Steemit FTW!
Progress!
