It maybe useful to compare weekly powerdown amount before and after.

Information and transparency is important. It would be nice if everyone had a little patience, because if they could hold for just a week or two with this tight supply, we'd be back up to $1 very quickly. However, I am a little troubled by the scrutiny these people are receiving. Some of them probably have bills to pay and other legitimate reasons which I don't need them to explain to me (even if they choose to leave, which is fine also). Others may stay in Steem rather than SP if they don't need the voting power - powering down does not mean they will sell now. I hope the community does ostracize anyone who makes the choice to power down.

This will be useful. Thanks!

·

Agreed, 100%. Trying to understand all this more each day.

sometimes this really bothers me. i mean people can do whatever they want with Steem, right? and nope, I am not powering down.

·

Of course they can, but it's useful for traders to be able to estimate the amount of liquid Steem there will be in the near future.

·
·

ah okay. that makes sense :)

Thanks @clayop! Resteemed :)

Do you have an easy way to compare the volume of power downs pre and post fork?

·

Weekly MVEST withdrawal was 3317.17 before the hardfork. Now, 4526.42 MVESTS per week (only new powerdowns are applied by the 13 week rule)

·
·

A rise was expected just due to the shorter schedule. But it will certainly impact markets once selling begins - assuming that these power downs will be sold.

·
·

Thanks!

now when i see others powering down i also see the value of my vote going up, as they wont sell if the price of steem is too low

Thanks for the transparency here clayop! :)

Thank you!

RS and UV! This is useful stuff, no doubt! TY very much for this and the comments are great here!

I am trying to understand all this stuff better, lots to learn.

Great information thanks clayop

surprised to see my name on it. this is actually my first powering down. reasons being: 1. opportunity cost (SP interest) is much lower and I want to try this too. 2. might need it for other purposes (e.g. find someone to collaborate )... But for the record, I won't sell any of it, at least within 3 months and probably much much longer I hope!

So in Steemed's case, 3225 x 478 = the number of steem they are powering down? Is that correct? (1.5M steem ish)

Then we can divide that number by 13 to get the number he will be selling each week (if he decides to sell it)?

·

3225 x 478 = the number of steem they are selling?

Powering down does not necessarily mean selling. Could be moved to another account, or just held as STEEM (more liquid, with minimal added loss to inflation unlike before). In any case, yes that is the amount of STEEM corresponding to the MVESTS. 1/13 of that is powered down per week.

·
·

Ok, thanks for the explanation. I made some edits to my comment to make sure I was being clear :)

·
·
·

He doesn't vote too much, so maybe he just wants it in Steem and not SP.

·
·
·
·

Yes, good points! I shouldn't use the word sell... Powering down could be for several reasons like you mentioned.

·
·
·
·

Good clarification, thanks

·
·

true that. i have a few Steem, holding.

·
·

@smooth - you powered down :P peace
btw, I left you a message in the steemit chat
and was trying to log in a few minutes ago but it says 502 Bad Getaway when I click on the steemit chat page so not sure you got my message

·
·
·

Yeah, I noticed that steemit.chat was down earlier, couldn't get on. I'll check it again soon.

·
·
·
·

@smooth sorry, I forgot to take this down -
chat's working properly again

·
·
·
·

I'm jumping in here to say thanks for sponsoring the Culinary Challenge! Each one is a challenge, alright. It has helped some of us get to know each other better, too.

·

Plus his second account right underneath. So...

3225 + 2961 = 6186
6186 x 478 = 2,956,908 STEEM

Current STEEM price is ~$0.23.
2,956,908 x 0.23 = $680,088/13 weeks = $52,314 every week for the next three months (at current prices).

·
·

Don't forget steemroller a bit further down the list with his piddly little 345 mvests...

·
·

If he should decide to sell...

·
·
·

Of course. But there's no indication that this STEEM is currently being held. These aren't accounts that just started powering down - they're the ones that have already begun powering down under the new, shorter schedule.

·
·
·
·

Good points... Although it could be that these people now think that with the new fundamentals, the price of steem might go on a significant run and they want to have some liquid steem for when it does...

So maybe "not selling immediately" should be what I said ;)

·
·
·

Right. But when I look at his accounts, he seemed to sell all STEEM.

·
·
·
·

Well that is not what you want to hear...

·

Correct. And itsascam is also steemed. So he's powring down about 3 million STEEM. (divide by 13 for each week = 227k STEEM)

·
·

He's 'powering down', not necessarily selling now.

·
·
·

Correct. will edit
