The Black Woman

imageThe black woman is associated with power, fear, mystery, strength, authority, elegance, formality, authority, and sophistication, authoritative and powerful. The woman black can evoke strong emotions, she can be submissive, she can be weak, she can be mild, she can be in doubt but the black woman never break, crack or accept defeat. The black woman is an Alpha wolf.

The black woman to some people are the women who for originated and live on the continent of Africa. Some also believe the black woman includes the slaves and their descendants who were taken from their home land Africa to foreign soil by the colonial masters in the time of slavery. Another set also believe the black women also includes the aboriginal women in Australia.

In this write up The impacts and success of notable Black women on the society would be the point of focus.

Harriet Tubman (1822 – 1913) – A Former slave who escaped and then helped many more to escape on the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, she served as spy and guide to the Union Forces – This included guided a party of soldiers at Combahee Ferry, which helped free 700 slaves.

Coretta Scott King (1927 – 2006) Scott King was an author, musician, civil rights activist and wife of Sir Martin Luther King. She played a prominent role in the civil rights campaigns, both before and after her husband’s assassination. She founded the King Centre and campaigned for Martin Luther King Day to be a national holiday (established 1982).

Rosa Parks (1913 – 2005) – Instrumental in the US civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. It was Parks who began an influential boycott of segregated buses in 1955. She remained an influential figure in the civil rights movement, encouraging a break-down of racial barriers.

Ida Wells (1862 – 1931) Wells was a pioneering journalist and newspaper editor. She used her position to investigate the practice of lynching in the south. A fearless civil rights activist and female suffrage campaigner, she was a founder member of the NAACP in 1909.

Funmilayo Anikulapo Ransome kuti (1900-1978) Nigerian feminist and political leader who was the leading advocate of women’s rights in Nigeria during the first half of the 20th century. She was thrown from the third floor of her son the late music legend Fela's compound the kalakuta republic when 1000 men from the Nigerian army stormed the building. She went into coma and died two months later.
