If someone rings you the rule is you can answer it, but tell them you will phone them back after dinner. This is just about etiquette and good manners.

The Tour de France is on and one of the teams has set a rule in place that all the riders and staff are happy with. Team EF or Education First as they are known has put a rule in place where they are not allowed cell phones at the dinner table. You can show photographs to others, but no endless scrolling as it divides the team.

The reason being is that being part of the team means talking with each other and being in "the moment" as they call it. This I think should be the normal as it is bad manners to be at a table and ignoring others whilst on your phone.

I can remember telling my kids that nothing came to the dinner table but themselves. No games , no phones as it was bad manners and you are there to spend quality time as a family. I am sure there are very few families and teams that have this sort of rule in place.

I see it as more common sense as you need to get to know your team members and the only way is talking to each other. During the race there is little time for talking as you are saving your energy for the harder sections during the day. The rule they have in place is for the more serious races and the Tour de France is the ultimate race.
