This weekend marks 6 years since I held the most iconic real street rollerblading competition in Australia.
The iconic RIGHT 2 ROLL.
For 10 years in a row I held this street competition, were we would go to the most legendary street spots in Brisbane city.
Rollerbladers from all over Australia and overseas would make the pilgrimage up to sunny QLD. This gathering of skaters all got to session the best street spots Brisbane has to offer. We would reclaim the streets for just one day.
The first place prize would always be a different custom made wrestling belt and cash money $$$$ awarded by the lovely VC Clothing promo girls 😊

It's crazy to look back at the 10 years that I held this competition. Each competition was so crazy as we mixed up the spots every year to keep it fresh.
And the best part was nobody had ever won a RIGHT 2 ROLL twice.
The demise of this competition was when QLD was having problems with bikies, so the passed association law. That if three or more people are caught breaking the law that would be instant jail time. Now as rollerbladers we might be seen as damaging public or private property but the reality is we are just scratching off some paint on a hand rail. Mostly which had already had the paint scratched before we got there.
We have never had any trouble with police at these competitions in the past, they would just come up and find out why there was such a large croud at random spots in the city and tell us to move on. Then we would all meet up at the next spot.
After speaking with my lawyer he advised that if the police officer wanted to enforce the new law that was not only aimed at the bikies but was for any three people or more breaking the law, I could be charged with this new association law and do some jail time for rollerblading.
There is no way in HELL I would do jail time for playing on a kids toy called rollerblades. So I had to call it a day for RIGHT 2 ROLL. But we all still got 10 amazing comps in the books!!
I have tried to make a DVD featuring all 10 competitions..... But three times in a row after all the hours of editing. My computer or external hd's have died and I have lost all the progress. Three times it is cursed haha. So maybe fourth time lucky but who knows when I will have time for that. In the meantime check out this promo we put together for the DVD.

Very cool stuff. I wasn't into skating this extreme by any means, but we would tear up Chicago back in 93-96 range. Get chased out of parks by cops and just out having a good time. Ended up playing a lot of inline hockey and still playing now into my 40's.
Some of those spills I swear I felt the pain as the person hit the ground. Can't tell you how many times I had to pick stones and crap out of the road rash on my body.
Haha it is so much fun hey. I remember when I was younger getting chased out of skate spots by the cops and always arguing with security guards 😊 these days I normally stick to skate parks as it doesn't hurt as much as skating street.
I have had countless injurys from rollerblading but it's all part of the fun 😊
Inline hockey is very fun good to hear you are still rolling!!
