SPIRITUAL FOOD 4 THOUGHT : CHURCH LEADERSHIP SERIES - PASTORS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
This is a very interesting subject to actually consider and research.
DISCLAIMER: It is not my intention to "attack" anyone here, but above all I am going to side with God rather than the traditions of men. Therefore, some will be offended no matter how I present this, but I do my best to be respectful and accurate.
Dude I see the same in scripture. I've been having these convos for years now with church leaders. I was even told this. "Without a pastor you are promoting anarchy in the church".
The church is to be lead by a plurality of elders. The bible is very clear on that. Leadership is shown in the plural not a one man show. The one man show is totally unbiblical. Plus how can the rest of the body use their gifts if they show up to see one person use theirs.
The institutional church robs believers and leaders of proper and biblical church function because of man made traditions.
It's sad because the church is disfunctional because of this lack of understanding.
Lastly the way elders is used in scripture is not an official title. It's never used that way how it's used today. Elder, shepherd, bishop, overseer are interchangeably used for the same office they just highlight different aspects of the same role within the body. But we have taken them and use them as titles rather than function.
You were spot on with the biblical view of church leadership.
Man, so glad that you get this too. So many can't see it, but I guess they don't really look. I'll be talking about the bishops/overseers soon enough. Wish people would wake up.
A really interesting point that you brought out in this video is that the word that's translated as Pastor in English is Shepherd in the Greek text and that all of the other times it is used in the New Testament, it isn't translated as Pastor. Thought provoking.
I strongly agree with your line of questioning. I think it's valuable for people who are serious about following the Bible and having it inform our thoughts and guide our actions. I look forward to hearing more in this video series.
Thanks very much Brother! It really is peculiar.
