Are Space Wars Inevitable?

The history of humanity is riddled with conflicts and chaos and an embarrassingly large number of wars and battles that sometimes make me question whether we really are an intelligent species.

I mean, one would presume that a highly intelligent civilisation would eventually figure out ways to live in peace and harmony but reality is a stark contrast. Even though in the present, we might not be fighting wars, but we all know about the unrest in several parts of the world and the continuous conflicts even among the large nations of the world.

Is it then too far fetched to think that there could be another war on a global scale? I don't think so. Nobody can predict what micro conflicts may lead to a full on third world war. Take space for example.

It is a completely new frontier for the world, one that is rapidly becoming an important aspect of human life. Right now the international guidelines suggest that space is for peaceful and scientific use only, but one wrong move by any country and it might just end up being the arena for another global war.

Space Wars

Space wars may sound like something straight out of science fiction where we imagine high tech spaceships shooting each other with lasers and all the action taking place in the black vastness of space. But in my opinion, it might one day become a reality.

Up until now, the purpose for our expansion into space has been that of exploration and the furthering of scientific knowledge but knowing the nature of humans, conflicts could arise due to any number of reasons.

We already know that there are classified satellites sent to orbit by many countries. Who's to say they aren't weaponised. Also, the US is establishing a 'space force' to protect its 'interest in space'. Slowly but surely, other countries may follow suit and it takes just one act of a little agression for things to spiral.

The different countries of the world will always prepare themselves for any real or perceived threats from other countries. So, if one nation does something, the others will do it too. And since the guidelines regarding space are just that, 'guidelines', there is definitely a chance of someone doing something wrong.

What I'm trying to say is that, in our history, whenever there were unclaimed lands or resources, usually it led to wars and battles among interested parties and the same thing could happen with everything in space. I sure hope that doesn't happen, but it seems like a real possibility to me.

I think given the proximity of it, the moon will be the first point of contention. Outside of that, there is a lot of space to go around! Hopefully we can successfully carve up territory there. Not many signed the moon treaty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Treaty

Yeah, for sure Moon would be the first place of conflict. But I really hope space can be left out of our petty human fighting.

Moon Treaty
The Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, better known as the Moon Treaty or Moon Agreement, is a multilateral treaty that turns jurisdiction of all celestial bodies (including the orbits around such bodies) over to the international community. Thus, all activities must conform to international law, including the United Nations Charter.
In practice it is a failed treaty because it has not been ratified by any state that engages in self-launched manned space exploration or has plans to do so (e.g. the United States, the larger part of the member states of the European Space Agency, Russia (former Soviet Union), People's Republic of China and Japan) since its creation in 1979, and thus has a negligible effect on actual spaceflight.

@sauravrungta, In my opinion Earth turned into Battlefield Long time ago, we are not understanding it because most of us are busy in Rat Race. History and the current picture tells that the most dangerous creature is human being.
