Welcome to the latest edition of the SoCal Steemit Visiting Hour post!

Every tuesday at 8pm @socalsteemit is doing a weekly voice and text chat for the members in our Discord server! Here we'll be giving a short summary of our previous chat and bring up potential topics for the next upcoming chat.

Last Nights Visiting Hour

In the last SoCal Visiting Hour we had @csusbgeochem1, @corinneiskorean, and myself (@derekrichardson) all join in the conversation! It seemed like it went quick (time flies when your having fun), but we talked about a ton of stuff. And I must admit that I did more talking than note taking for todays post. So... most of this will just be from memory. Hopefully I won't forget anything important.

I got the conversation started by talking about some of the exciting stuff I've been seeing on the videos from @steemfest! There are so many new projects happening on the Steem blockchain. The list is to long to list them all, but a few you might look into are the @steempeak interface, the @partiko mobile app, the new video capability on @steepshot, the @creativecrypto online magazine, the @musing decentralized Q&A platform, and the new Steem Keychain extension.

One of the major topics of Steemfest was "tokenizing the web". Instead of trying to bring everyone to Steem, we bring Steem to everyone. Getting people using Steem without needing much (if any) prior understanding of blockchain technology. Things like @steempress and @share2steem where users of Wordpress, Twitter, Instagram, Twitch, and Youtube can easily monetize their posts from those social media sites on the Steem blockchain. While talking about these @corinneiskorean brought up how in the past "quality content" was always a big deal on Steemit. With Steem expanding beyond just being a crypto Reddit, there will be more of a variety of types of posts and I'm sure an ever changing idea of the measurment of "quality content". How it evolves, I think only time will tell.

A lot of the things we discussed will actually be expanding the Steem blockchain beyond just social media use. Things such as @steemmonsters and @chibera bringing Steem to gaming, @fundition bringing Steem to crowd funding, @cleanplanet bringing Steem to environmentalism, the upcoming @SteemitWorldMap mobile app bringing Steem to travel/dining/lodging recommendations, @steemhunt bringing Steem to product reviews, and one that I find especially exciting @dstors bringing Steem to e-commerce!

I'm sure I'm forgot something, but pretty much that's the recap for last night.

Next Tuesday

In next Tuesdays SoCal Visiting Hour I'd like to talk about ideas to continue building and supporting the @socalsteemit community. With the new projects we've been doing we've seen an increase in community participation and we'd love to see it continue to grow. Beyond that the floor is open to anything else any members would like to bring up and discuss! So again, it's tuesday at 8pm in the SoCal Steemit Discord server. If you are not equipped to voice chat or are a bit intimidated to get on a mic, feel free to come listen to the chat and communicate with the group through the corresponding text channel. We'd love to have everyone come join the conversation!!
