Ep 2: Finding hidden gems in Snowden Files #DecipherYou

in #snowden6 years ago (edited)

It continues! Presenting to you, wonderful Steemians, the secrets I've uncovered in the Snowden files, for your viewing and reading pleasure. Below is an annotated version of Episode 2 of Decipher You! Here we go!

Decipher You

Hey all!

So yesterday I introduced you to DecipherYou, the budding OSINT research community that has been forming around myself and my friend Elizabeth Lea Vos, Editor in Chief of Disobedient Media, as we've embarked upon an amazing journey to analyse all of the publicly available Snowden files. The files are periodically released in bulk by The Intercept.

In real time, this series continues twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday at 5pm PST / 8pm EST and tonight we will be streaming episode 23. Check out my Twitter account for more details and subscribe to my You Tube channel.

As I mentioned yesterday, this series starts off super informal - literally in bed with me at 5am one night - but slowly gets a little bit more slick as time goes on and we start to work out a bit more of a format for it. That said, it's still really raw (or as some have said of us - the real deal!!!). Who knows where it will go in the future as we continue to pursue our mission to mine the gems hidden in plain sight!!!

Stick with us. I'd love to have you join the live sessions but if you can't spend hours at a time watching, I'm making it as easy for you as possible to still get the benefit of the information we have discovered!

Love,
Suzie

  1. the expanding EU and rising states like China,
  2. unstable governments in grave jeopardy due to growing economic and social ills; and
  3. regional tensions or conflict growing out of ethnic and religious differences and
competition for access to strategic resources, most notably energy or water.

If the USA would not have been as corrupt as they now show to be then they never had to worrie about EU or China to superseed thei US economy.
Corruption has undermined the USA, they shot themselves in the foot with a machine gun by letting the corruption go on and on and on.

That in itselve would make a great comedy sketch. Obama and Hillary 'fighting terrorism' then grabbing machine guns and shooting eachothers feet to shreds while screeming it all because of the EU and China!!

BTW this was in 2004.? So now looking at the Euopean economy. How much of this European crisis can be led back to this very document?
After all the EU is no longer expanding so this seems to indicate a well aimed attack on EU economy. But what proof is there that someone actually targeted the EU economy other then the Migrant crisis?
What other tricks have been used to undermine the EU economy?
How much can be led back to lobby activities for instance?

Not sure if you are the right person to ask since you already do so much.
But would it be an idea to teach us how to mine the snowden files in small steps.

How to spot the stuff that's most significant?
All the codenames

I think small articles that focus on little details could help others to get into mining this stuff.

The dtube DecypherYou stream is interesting but still very difficult to navigate to go back to certain topics. Non the less a big thank you for sharing this. :-)

Looks like I need to do some mining on everything Dutch. As there seems to be a lack of deeper info on NSA tech in Dutch media. And since The Netherlands historically is one of the head runners when it comes to tapping phone conversations. I think there is a lot to discover in the Snowden library. Naming it library since this is, and should always be, public knowledge)

The biggest finds we make are often in passages in documents that are marked 'unclassified' rather than 'secret' or 'top secret'

The #1 advice I can give you would be to read everything, every single sentence

The codenames of the programs are usually not as useful as the information that relates to the cultural positions, attitudes and opinions within the organisation itself
