Sndbox Summer Camp Quest 1 | Analyze A Post
Hello Steemian friends,
This is the second part to our Sndbox Summer Camp Quest 1. We have to analyze a post done by one of the current Sndbox members. There are quite a few in each field, but we have chosen @world-travel-pro (a.k.a Dan) because a) he was one of the first Steemians we got in touch with and b) he has since become an overall good friend and supporter. Before we go into his post, firstly, we truly respect Dan as he has been travelling for the past 11 years and even more impressively with a yearly budget of $12,000...that's $1,000 a month. Can anyone else do that? Maybe, but it does take some sacrifices.
Analyzing Dan's post
We are analyzing one of his recent posts as not long ago he made the change to document his real life travel experiences via vlogging. He has decided to go 75% vlogging and keep the other 25% as blogging. This will save him time editing posts and choosing the right pictures etc. as this takes most of his time. He wants to live in the moment more and doesn't want to spend hours on the computer. We get that and this is why we put boundaries for ourselves. Anyway, we're going off on one.
The post we want to analysis is this very useful post about How To Plan A Trip Like A Travel Pro. It is truly an amazing post and video as he shows you step-by-step how to research and book cheap flights and plan your travel route to get around South America in 10 weeks! And for how much? Under $1,000! Since we haven't explored much of South America (Becca hasn't at all), this is a perfect post to keep for our eventual trip there.
What areas of the post needs improving
Just before the five minute mark, Dan states that he does not want his video 'to go on for too long' and later states he wanted to be about '3 minutes long', however it took much longer - 40 minutes. That is like an episode of a TV-series! Okay, fair enough, he states this in the title of the post that the educational video will be 40 minutes. Yet, nobody has time for that (well, we did).
We believe it wasn't his intention to film that long. We know, this is not a big deal, and we understand that once you start talking about a passion of yours or a topic that you find really interesting it's hard to stop or know when and where to stop. Dan clearly has a lot of tips and advice for fellow travelers planning on travelling in and around South America.
What We Would Have Done Differently
The video had a lot of information and it is quite a bit to take in (all very good stuff), but maybe breaking the video up into smaller ones. We spoke to Dan before about his videos and he told us that he is not looking into editing his videos and we understand that. Yet, with material like this, it is better to edit the video into smaller sizable chunks. We honestly watched the whole 40 minutes and we were taking down notes as his 24 hour research is great stuff!
Secondly, he had so many good tools and he was explaining it all in real-time. This is probably the reason why the video is 40 minutes long as we feel some of the webpages were prepared beforehand, but when he refreshed the page to show us how he did it, this took some time. We would have planned everything out and if you're going live then have a practice run or otherwise like the first point edit the video where you can to make it smoother. Dan's other video are fine unedited, but for this one there should have been some editing.
Lastly, what we would have done differently is share the webpages and tools he showed us in the video on the post as well. This would have been a good reference point to refer back to. He is trying to help all users travel more and save money in the process like he does. Leaving some of the links to the low-cost airline sites instead of re-finding it again in the video would have been appreciated!
Overall, Dan is a great member of the Steemit and Sndbox community. He continues to show why he is a Travel Pro and will continue to be so. We look forward to engaging with his future posts and potential endeavours! @travelling-two sending our love to him!
Stay Classy Steemians!

Wow. What an honor! Thank you guys so much! That was my very first video like that, so just getting that done as is. Was a major feat for me. I totally could have spent a lot more time and redoing it and many of your suggestions did run through my mind.
But I was in Mancora Peru! With only two days left! lol So going back to what you wrote about time management. I was off to the beach! lol
Thank you so much for you very kind words and support! It's greatly appreciated. Upped and resteemed! Well done guys!
Hahaha, we didn't know how you would take it, but we like to hate constructive criticism, but we acknowledge it as ways to improve ourselves and not as an offense.
No worries, we're sure you had a good reason to do it the way you have done it plus you were in Mancora with limited time as you said. Yet, with so much valuable information we knew this post could do better in a different format and we're glad you had our suggestions in your mind.
Thanks for the upvote and resteem! :D
✈👫
By the way! I'm honored you made it through the entire 40 minute video! Thanks guys!
It was long and tedious, but we didn't really acknowledge the time as much until we had to analyze the video/post. It's like a TV series episode, if you like it then the time flies, but if you don't...Zzzzz
✈👫
I see. Thanks again!
